Interesting insight into the Mutiny of 2015 in this Dawg Nation Mike Ekeler interview......
LINK...............
On his new job:
"I want to do it and treat kids the way I want to do it and I want to work with people I want to work with. I don’t want to be in rooms with people I don’t enjoy and don’t have much in common with.”
On Squattin-heimer'....:
“I learned a valuable lesson watching Brian Schottenheimer. He came into a situation where he tried to run an offense that was already in place and didn’t run his offense, so to speak. I didn’t want get into a situation like that after watching the difficulties that he had. When you do that – and I watched it happen – as a coordinator, and it’s not really your stamp but it’s your name, that’s not a good gig."
“I think Schotty took so much heat and it was really unfounded, in my opinion. That guy will go back to the NFL and do well. He’s a ball coach and he’s great at what he does. He’s one of the greatest people I ever met.”
On Jeremy Pruitt:
(Completely avoids the subject. Gives non-answer void of anything resembling praise or respect. and then says this.....)
"You could say it was one of the more difficult seasons I’ve been a part of. I think that’s fair to say.”
Shot across someone's bow:
“People talk about hiring great recruiters; I think that’s an absolute joke. If you’re labeled that, 99 percent of the time that means you can’t coach a lick. That’s a fact."

It's pretty well known that Ekeler didn't like Pruitt. He was leaving no matter what
ETA: doesn't sound like he liked Rocker or Sherrer either

OKay. But, here he is slinging mud in an official interview..... Instead of just hearing it through message-board joe rumors.

It's interesting that Ekeler would be aligned with Schottenehiemer in the Mutiny. The battle-lines aren't as clear-cut as i thought.

Other than 4 or 5 guys, every player is the same? It's not about recruiting, its about evaluating?
Weird statements. Recruiting is evaluating and is hugely important.
Be gone Ekeler.

It seems to me that Bobo and Friend were sort of unifying forces. They were friends with and had the respect of Pruitt et al. They bridged the defensive and offensive staff and had the ability to keep everyone on the same page.
After they left, it seems like the staff fell into different cliques. The Richt guys (McClendon, Brown, Lilly), the Pruitt guys (Pruitt, Sherrer, Sale, Hocke) and the outsiders fending for themselves (Ekeler, Rocker, Schottenheimer). Where Sherrer and Rocker fit is kind of unclear imo. You never heard about anybody who didn't think highly of them, except for Ekeler apparently.

Stuff like this makes me glad we cleaned house.
Hopefully Rocker and Sherrer will play nice going forward

I think that's a bit of hyperbole - but outside of probably 10-20 elite, elite players - there's probably another 200 that can be thrown in to a pile together - and so on down the line.
The difference is how you evaluate those guys that don't truly separate themselves (the high 3*-4* guys).
He's absolutely right that it's about evaluating players mores so than just recruiting the guys that are highly ranked. There just happens to be a lot of overlap in the two.

Agreed, but evaluating is a component of recruiting. Doesn't matter how well you evaluate if they go somewhere else.
Just sounds like bitter apples to someone he knew on the staff with the "great recruiter" tag.
I personally am thrilled that Kirby is bringing on a staff with recruiting (which includes evaluating) skills.

I disagree. Recruiting is convincing the player, his family, and that shadowy person that influences him, that your school and coach are the right places for him to develop fully. Just because you can evaluate talent, it doesn't necessarily mean you have the personality to convince that player.

I didn't say the skill set was the same. I just said you have to evaluate before you recruit.
So to your point, if he is saying the ability to watch film and determine which players to go after is more important than the social skills, I can believe that point. But you still have to do both.
I think his comment comes from someone on the staff last year who was " a great recruiter" that Ekeler thinks was a poor coach. I don't know which one this is.

It would almost have to be Pruitt or maybe Rocker?
What a shitshow...

If he is referring to Pruitt then hats off to him for magically turning around FSU and UGA defenses without knowing how to coach. Sounds like Ekeler is pretty butt hurt.

And we still don't even know the half of it.
I still want to know why Squattin-heimer gave up his bowl bonus and a multi-million dollar buy-out by quitting instead of simply waiting to be let go.
Unless there were some negotiations on that front that we don't know about, that's either some serious hurt feelings or a pretty fricking bold move based on principle.

Sounds like the old pun finally rang true....
Mark Richt definitely lost control!

I love this part...
On Schotty....
And Mark Richt said...
Jesus...we had a guy running the offense of another guy - who wasn't involved with "coaching" or the "offensive strategy"...and neither one of them wanted to be doing what they were doing.
No wonder our offense looked like a monkey fricking a doorknob last year. Damn.

Whether it is in the role of head coach, coordinator, quarterbacks coach, I would be really excited about coaching QBs again and getting in the middle of offensive strategy.

Sounds like McClendon...

Pretty candid comments but he also had a lot of really positive things to say about our players and program as a hole. Sounds like he just never really meshed with any of the other coaches on the defensive side of the ball. I hope Ekeler does well at his new gig.
