With both defenses losing a ton in the draft, I think it comes down to offensive play. Mettenberger was up and down last year. I don't think we'll have any trouble scoring, though it is LSU and they've recruited damn good the last few years. Our offense will no doubt be the best, but the question may be which young and inexperienced defense gels better. Not really a breakdown, just my thoughts.

My opinion on LSU going into this season is that they will reload on defense better than people expect, but their offense isn't gonna be as improved as their fans are hoping.

We have the better team and its in Athens. I just hope we aren't worn out from our tough start.

I think UGA should have an edge here, and not just because the game will be in Athens. Both teams lost much from their defense, so opposing offenses should have the advantage. However LSU's offense was poor last season (58th in scoring O and 85th in total O), while UGA's was in the top 25 nationally (19th scoring O, 22nd total O).

One concern may be in how well LSU runs the ball and controls the game clock, and thus keeping UGA's own offense on the sideline: LSU dealt with some injury issues at OL last season and this helped with some of the younger OL getting some experience. With 48 starts among the projected starting 5 and 4 of the 5 having starting experience, LSU's OL this season won't be the most experienced but it won't be the greenest either. UGA has shown to struggle against the run in recent seasons under Grantham, and concerns are being raised about transitioning from 350-lb nose tackles to 290-lb ones. LSU always has a deep and talented RB corps under Miles and likes to run smash-mouth football...

Could LSU control the clock and therefore game on the ground (50th in Rush O in '12) against a younger UGA DL (77th against the run) with a healthier OL? And the other side of the coin is, can UGA strike early and often with their high-powered offense through Murray and the air, and put LSU in catch-up mode, making them have to throw often behind Mettenberger? IMO, it will come down to which team's offense can dictate the game's pace....

I will say one thing that worries me right now is their run game. Our nose may be undersized if we stay 3-4 and thornton is there. Lsu has a good ol and at least 2, maybe 3 backs that can tote the mail. Thier d will be better than expected. It will be an all out brawl. I think the key to the whole game is who runs it better, and who stops the run better.

That excessive celebration call against AJ Green in 2009 still haunts me. We should have had that game.

LSU's defense will be good, their offense is going to be 1 dimensional and they are going to run a lot. It will help you out a lot to have the game in Athens.

sell out to stop lsu's running game, i'd take my chances with a super inconsistent mettenburger

Mett looked like a master in the 4th quarter of the Bama game last year, the reason Richt personally recruited him. He just has to be consistent with help from the running game and defense, same as murray. You can't put the whole game on one guy's shoulders.

lsu always has a great ground game and defense. Murray had a good consistent run game for the 1st time this year and has never had a great defense. Mett looks like tom brady vs bama and then looks like ryan leaf vs clemson, i'll take my chances on his consistencies

The LSU defense will be better than many expect, but so will Georgia's. The Georgia defense underperformed last year, and if Granthem wants to jump to the NFL he will do what it takes to see that they play above expectations this year, which is good news for Dawg fans. LSU will try to control the clock with their running game, but keep Georgia's defense honest by stretching the field throwing the ball deep. Remember, Georgia moved the ball well against Alabama last year, and LSU's defense will not be as good as Alabama's was last year. (They WILL, however be very good) I think you will see both teams establishing the run, and if Mettenberger matures it will be a tough game for the Dogs. It's an old tired axiom, but it will come down to who protects the ball better and avoids mistakes. Close game that could go either way.

Mett got tossed out of UGA for being a douche bag. I would bet he's got more motivation to beat Georgia than any other team so I would expect him to play well.

LSU's offensive line only has to replace the LT and C so they will probably be pretty good. They ran off the right side of that line the last half of last year pretty much at will and those two guys are only going to be sophomores.

Their defense will probably be the same as it has the last three years, solid.

I think our offense matches up well to their defense so I think we can score 30+ but I would expect them to score as well. They have a new OC and by the time they play us they'll probably start getting their shite together on that side of the ball. If our front 3 line handle business we should still win.
