What is a good small potentialy portable propane grill that still has enough btu's to put grill marks on steaks and fish? Something more than a hot dog cooker, but ideally the size of a hot dog cooker.

I've never owned one, I'm in the market.

What is enough BTU's? Per sq in of cooking area.. is there a formula?

10,000 btus on 240 sqin's would be better than 20,000 btu on 600 sq inch, right? What is the Golden Mean?

Educate me, please.

This one here might be a winner. It's already the right colors.

LINK

It packs an impressive 70.17 btu's per square inch, and utilizes the little cannisters.

I've got a Coleman Roadtrip grill, prolly the 1st or 2nd one to come out. I bought it in '89 or '90 & still use it at every game. All I had to do was buy an adapter to hook up a 20lb propane tank instead of the little 1lb'er...

Hafta light it with a lighter now but it still cooks great, cools off in about 10min. so you can throw it back in the car/SUV before you head to the game, has a drip cup to catch the extra grease/juices, gets plenty hot to sear steaks/chops etc.... Love my old one...

The Coleman doesn't have. Very large lid so if you're wanting to put anything on it that isn't standard grilling width then you can't close it to keep the heat in. The weber Q has a much taller lid but doesn't have the sear capability with lower btu. I've used both grills several times and I prefer the weber because it's much higher quality. The first time I pulled the Coleman out of the truck the wheel broke off.

You would have me burn up 30 minutes and 9 dollars of fancy yuppie coal to put grill marks on a couple of hot dogs.

ETA- This was my 15,000th post.

Ive already got a smoker that will put any ceramic communist smoker to shame, and I've proven it, twice, on this very site.

Lump charcoal only has one ingredient. Wood. Doesn't sound too fancy to me.

On the other hand, did you know that your favorite briquette brand Kingsford is made by the Clorox chemical company? I wonder how they get the wood into those uniform briquette shapes like they do. Surely they wouldn't use any by-products from some of Clorox's other toxic concoctions, would they?

Yup... The name, Coleman Roadtrip grill kinda gives it away. Solid little grill for dogs, burgers, brats, chicken, steaks etc... Ain't charcoal but it's damn convenient...

Not sure about the new ones but none of mine is exposed to the fire, 2/3rd's is a ribbed angled cooking surface & 1/3rd is a flat griddle surface so I can do breakfast for a 12:00 game, or grill on the ribbed surface & like I said, no juices or grease get into the burner area, it has a lil' channel that runs around the entire edge & the juices/grease run into a drip tray...

It excels at what it's designed to do...

Sort of goldfish shaped griddle surfaces directly over the burners, if that's what you are talking about. Bowl-like curvature of the underpanning, culminating into a drip plate.

Below is stock pic.

Nope mine is more like a combo of these 2 grids with 2/3rds being the ribbed part of the back grid & 1/3rd being the flat part of the top grid. The flat side overlaps & locks into the ribbed side & it has the drip channel all the way around with drip pan on front of grill. Can't see the flame & the flame is not exposed with grids in... If this makes sense...

What might be on your typical 12 o clock game breakfast menu?

Dallas, Are you out there frying bacon?

What ever...bacon, pork tenderloin, sausage, polish sausage, red hots etc...maybe a veggie/cheese/mushroom etc. omelet or french toast... at 8:30 in the BB&T lot with bloody mary's/screwdrivers/mimosas etc... Just kinda depends on who is bringing what...

Then something easy, dogs/burgers etc. after the game with beers, watchin' the 3:30 game while traffic dies down...

3:30 or later kickoff = a whole nother menu....

Obviously it's 2nd rate grillin' but it's fun & better than nothing...

I have a standard backyard 4-burner propane grill that I use a bunch because it's quick and easy for some things. One thing thats weird though is that sometimes the little removable grease trap will come up missing.....and I'll find it long distances away.

That's got to be raccoons, right?

And that nasty shite will be licked fricking clean.....

Could be beagles. A coon wouldn't generally run away with it. A coon would sit right there and lick it clean. A dog would carry it off.

The grease trap is actually pretty difficult to remove. And I have two opposable thumbs. You have to push forward, then lift up, then pull backwards.....and it's in a narrow and awkward part underneath the grill.

I believe now that there may have been some kind of recent evolutionary break-through in the varmint animal kingdom. This could be huge.

I need one of those Trail cams..
