Has anyone heard Kirby publicly say anything positive about the current players on the rosters? Every time I read/listen to him it sounds like he only talks about recruiting better players and how we have holes. Anyone think this will make it harder for current players to buy in to changes if they feel like he thinks they aren't that good?

Donnan said on Finebaum at the beginning of the season we didn't have a very good team and he was right.

CMR didn't leave us a top tier talent team.

Hopefully with a better system we can use our existing talent and new recruits much more effectively.

Not sure if y'all read the Rush Probst article that was posted here a while back, but he said he left a Summer visit in Athens fearful that our max win ceiling was 8 games with our talent. Kirby calls it like he sees it.

Kirby knows our players well enough after viewing film and scheming against us in October. He won't comment on the players publicly until he is motivating them in spring or summer camp.

That's just paranoid bullshite. Talent hasn't been the issue and never has been. It's been development, utilization, and maximazation. Even in 2010 when we sucked, our talent level kept us in games well past when we should have gotten destroyed.

Talent across our starting 22 hasn't been a problem, but quality depth has been a big problem for UGA. Part of that is due to under signing, and part of it is due to Richt zeroing in on ONE prospect at each position and putting all those eggs in that basket. It brings in some really good players but has resulted in some pretty big holes at key positions (QB, CB, WR) and a lack of depth almost across the board.

True. If the players don't care enough to give 100% from day 1 on campus through their last game as a senior, that's evaluation and coaching. I've mentioned this many times.

Talent has been an issue at specific positions, and in regards to depth as well.

That would fall into the failure to utilize and maximize the bench to reach their greatest potential. With Saban's system, it's a science. Everyone goes through the development. I feel like we've had plenty of coaches (including Pruitt) who just want to keep the best on the field and don't give a shite about developing backups.

It could also fall into the failure to sign enough talent. No one can say we have recruited very well at OT or WR at the very least.

I bet Kirby knows the name "Greyson Lambert." I bet his whole gameplan when Bama played the Dawgs was centered around Greyson.

"Alright boys, the Dawgs are starting this cat Lambert at QB. Here's what we need to do. Let him throw the ball, and make his own decisions. He'll throw it once or twice, go three-and-out, and they'll punt it back to us. Just gotta stop Chubb/Michel."

I bet he also said that the UGA OL has no chance to open up any holes against us because they are weak and not very talented.

Actually, they went after him pretty hard and disguised coverages pretty well. They dropped guys and blitzed and played robbers. It was made easier by the fact that thier front line was very athletic and owned the los.... But other than that, why let the facts get in the way of a good story?

It was a yoke, my man...would you believe Kirby didn't actually say that? Next time I'll remember to put on the sarcasm font before I tell a story like that

Last year Athlon ranked our talent 6th and Clemson's 11th. Talent has seldom been the problem at UGA. I think Smart shares Saban's burning desire to be the best, and I think he will.
