I saw Kirby's answer to Finbaum. I love the fact that Kirby didn't hesitate to answer and didn't attempt to qualify his statement. The QB who gives us the highest probability of a win will start.

I think Eason takes control this Summer.

It will be Lambert. Eason has the arm, the touch, all the potential. But as Smart also said, Lambert is a very seasoned quarterback. He's played against the best, he knows how to run an offense at this level, he's faced just about everything you can face at the college level. And Lambert's size and arm strength is pretty good, too. Smart will give him a legitimate shot to either make the jump or not. Even though Eason likely wins out by superior talent within a couple of games, I doubt Smart will start Eason on the big stage, in game 1, against a good opponent, with zero experience playing at the college level.

Not to be argumentative but I think Lambert's arm strength and velocity sucks.

Smart's recent critique of Lambert was that he: a) needs to be more mobile and move the pocket, and b) not be afraid to make plays.

I don't think Lambert's problem is lack of physical tools. It's the mental side...plays scared. Maybe he doesn't have real good control on deep throws so he's scared of throwing INTs...who knows. Maybe he just doesn't have the swagger needed for the job...

I'd call this pretty accurate. I just used to cringe when he threw the ball for any distance.

There's no way Lambert isn't the starter against North Carolina, imo.

If I'm wrong, then Eason is even better than his biggest fanboy thinks he is.

Lambert gets a shot just like jt3 did.

Lambert will start if for no other reason than he's predictable to the coaches; they know how well he can do and how poorly he can do. They know his strengths and weaknesses.

Eason is a total wild card. We've never seen him get hit. We don't know what he'll do in front of a hostile crowd or on national TV.

That being said, Eason is going to play. It may be mop up duty or it may be a QB rotation. Either way, I hope Kirby makes a decision on the starter before August and sticks with it

Josh Rosen started as a TF for UCLA. He went on to have a very solid freshman campaign beating out "experienced" QB's that were on the roster. He has all the physical tools to be great. When he gains control of the team, the skys the limit. Who's to say he's not smart enough and experienced in his own mind to completely understand the playbook and start the 1st game of the season. NC's defense would ve a great break in game IMO.
