A) Defenses are loading the box against us.
B) We have the best running back talent in the nation.
C) Toss sweep to a stud running back to make the corner.

What am I missing?

That opposing coaches and players have brains. The toss sweep isn't some magic pill that no one can stop. You still need good numbers and have to block it well.

Yet if the defense is stacked inside why wouldn't you attack the edges?

A pass. Single coverage on both sides if the box is slacked.

I don't understand why we are using Chubb on toss sweeps to the short side of the field

Exactly. A screen pass or something.

My point is that our offensive coordinator doesn't have to reinvent the wheel.

Load box = attack edge

If we can't pass from the WD, we sure as hell aren't going to pass out of an option formation.

Kirby said after the game "we need to get the ball to number 7 and I'm not talking about Lorenzo Carter".

Swift is gonna be a monster. I glad he's out there as much as he has been but we will get to see a heavy dose of #7 on Saturday since Sony has an ankle bothering him

Almost seems like CKS is gonna lull defenses to sleep with the direct snap then pull a rabbit out of a hat later when needed?

How about we try using the old Swinging Gate?

Honestly, with the INSANE backside pursuit we've seen for the last 15 games, I'm dumbfounded that we do not run more counter plays. Back side linemen and linebackers crash down hard to play side mode every damn play. Running a counter or naked bootleg with the TE slipping out on a drag just a few times per game would be enough to free up a little running room. We're way too bland and predictable on offense. Have been for a while.

This is obvious to everyone in the world except our coaches.

Even the gimps on 680 The Fan.

If Fromm had kept just one of those handoffs, even if he slid before contact without getting the first down, it would be enough for the weak side DE/LB/CB to stutter a half second for the rest of those plays, just long enough to make a difference on the strong side.

I haven't seen, that I recall, a single misdirection play from our offense this year.

A coordinator's job is to recognize this shite, recognize patterns, and throw in wrinkles like that to keep defenses honest.

Chaney has not done this.

It really is frustrating.

I've seen misdirection. But I agree with this. Too many DEs crashing hard from the backside.

Outside blocking. Teams like GT can do it because their coach focuses on the art of cut blocking otherwise you are not part of his team. We should hire Paul Johnson part time to teach our team how to block.

I thought the same thing but they probably told Fromm not to pull it and risk injury.

We do attack the edges. How many of those pop passes to Mecole did we run? Or off tackle reverse type handoffs to Swift?

I really think the offensive playcalling and offense in general have improved big time, it's just not showing yet on the scoreboard. If Fromm hits Godwin on the sideline, who has two steps on the defender, and Mecole catches that deep ball, we score 30+ points. On the road with a freshman qb.

Players need to execute better.

However, I do hate the Wild Dawg
