I can't help but notice this kicker has on two sleeves, four sweat bands, and a towel in this picture. That has to be the most swagger I've ever seen for a kicker.

I trust out coaches fully, but I despise the rugby punt. For starters the trajectory coming off the foot is extremely low which is easier ot block. Also instead of catching and instantly punting, they're running laterally which just gives blockers more time to get to them. And lastly since the trajectory is so low, it typically will bounce a few times and straight into the returner's arms.

I do see the benefit in it, in that by taking another second or two before kicking your gunners can get down there to limit a return. I just think it's too high risk for not enough reward.

If you have a future NFL punter, there is no debate about which method is better. In college, I prefer the rugby punt as it is much more consistent. No shanked 19 yard punts or punts into the wind for 25 yards.

He could be a big addition. The rugby punt is very useful in preventing any type of return. When you have punters as pathetic as the ones there now, you need to go to unconventional means.

I like rugby punts because they limit returns but only if the punter is really good at it. I have seen mid level teams do it and just pooch horrible kicks out of bounds. If this guy can master it, though, then I am all about it. I just wish we had the Bama punter. I am glad we are giving this kid a shot because Colin Barber has been so very mediocre.

If done correctly, yes. If you have a defender slip past your gunner, you haven't bought any extra time and the punter has to get it off quick. Now you've got a line drive punt that's going to 1 hop to a returner with nobody within 15 yards of him.

Like I said I can definitely see the benefits of it when executed properly. I just hope we don't try to get cute and frick it up like we did with the wildcat.

I think you could bet the ranch this will happen.

Again, if the punters there were not so miserable, I'd be against it too.

If you have ever been the guy that said you are going to train your kid to be a kicker, that is what this kids dad did. No athletic talent whatsoever and had him kicking since he was young as shite.

Why does the rugby kick work against us almost every time some other team uses it?

Rodrigo certainly doesn't look athletic but after reading a bit about him it seems that looks are deceiving. The guy is athletic.

Yea this kid is pretty athletic and a very good soccer player it's not like all he can do is rugby punt he can boom it regular too. Just the rugby punt would be a good added addition and something other teams will have to gameplan for. He will be our guy too when Morgan graduates

Rugby style is high risk high reward. All the bouncing and crazy spin will definitely mess up return men. The extra time we allow our players to get down field is a bonus as well. The drawback is the low trajectory that may be blocked or hit our player early. If he's as good as his film, I'll take it.

Yea I don't think it will be something we use every punt but just an added dimension to our punting game
