I don't follow recruiting, so not sure if this has been discussed...

But, I was reading an article on Dawg Nation that talked about some top recruit of Georgia's skipping his senior year at Buford High School.... in order to enroll in a private $70,000 dollar per year football "academy" that claims to build athletes like they are building robots in a laboratory or something.

It's called IMG Academy... LINK.....

-their athletes are hooked to probes during practice
-they drink from gatorade bottles with pictures of themselves on the branded bottle label
-with their faces on video boards above their locker in a neon lit lockerroom
-with Under Armour as a corporate sponsor of the kid athlete labratory
-etc.

Their team even has a creepy name......"The Ascenders". But, I'm not sure who they play though. Or if they take robot dates to senior prom.

Anybody else creeped out by this? Or is this shite considered normal now?

I think it's a bad idea, but those types of schools will only become more common.

These schools started as places for tennis players, I believe. Now expanding to other sports. The top players there are recruited and don't pay that tuition.

I picture Drago's training montage from Rocky IV.

They play big public schools around the state of Florida. It's weird, for sure, but given the unfixable, total shitstorm that is American Education, may as well applaud them for trying to so something different.

Tennis, Gymnastics, Golf. Basically any sport that is year round and requires a lot of travel. They've had a few in and around Atlanta for some time but I think IMG is the first to expand to Football.

Deion Sanders tried to open Primetime Academy in Texas under a similar model but failed miserably when all the school's money was embezzled by some Reverend.

They were supposed to dominate American Heritage last week, but ended up losing 19-7. Brian Burns, a big UGA target at OLB, dominated the IMG OL.

Are you surprised?

Recruiting has long since become a business force feeding a market of lemmings who slobber over every word posted by 12-17-year-old prospects like these geese do feed.

Then you have all this packaged into pay sites 24/7 and twit feeds going around the clock.

It's not healthy, but we love our stuffed duck liver don't we....

The star of that defensive front is Brian Burns, a four-star end with interest from all the traditional Southeastern powers. His grandfather died earlier this week and Heritage didn’t know whether Burns would make the trip to Bradenton until Friday.

He had Patterson on the run during nearly every play and cornerbacks Patrick Surtain Jr. and Will Allen – the sons of the former NFL corners with the same names – kept the Ascenders’ wideouts from running free.

This is essentially Bolles High School on steroids!!! In my opinion a school like Bolles survives but these extreme ones like IMG end up dying out due to the fact that they go bankrupt or their money is illegal like Deion's school in Texas. We have a ton of these in NC for basketball because that's about the only sport our state dominates in!

So how are these kids going to get into college if they don't complete high school?

Or...are they just gonna work out until they're eligible for the NFL? What am I missing?

This school has been good to us so far and they are always loaded. Hope Brain Burns signs with the good guys.

The problem with Buford wasn't recruiting it's that the numbers of the school kept their classification down so they were pounding out championships against extremely low competition. I am originally from Fitzgerald and we had some dog fights with Buford but that team was insane to play as a 1A or 2A school.

What's in it for public schools to play these cyborgs?

Are they being paid? Kind of like the cupcakes in fbs?

I don't think IMG is going to teach your kids anymore than it takes to pass the bare-minimum to get into whatever college. Looks more like a money-making enterprise preying like a vampire on the pro-sports dreams that some parents have for their kids.

Meanwhile, on the escaping government school shitstorm front.... there are all kinds of football and sports leagues springing up to cater to the explosion of kids being home-schooled.

Also, I know of several cases where kids that are homeschooled are allowed to try out for the teams at private high schools? Not sure if the government public schools allow this though. I highly doubt it.

Looks like they've elevated recruiting to a national level.

Been going on for years in HS Basketball but this is pretty new in Football.

Imagine the shite-talking when playing the cyborgs of IMG.......

Light a kid up that paid $70 grand to play, then ask him what his probes read on that hit....bitch.

Most schools refuse to play them. Only the real beast in Florida have been willing. The fact that American Heritage whipped their arse is kinda funny.

Are you surprised?

You know the stereo typical dad at little league or whatever....who turns red and tries to fight coaches and refs......and is considered an embarrassing a-hole by everyone in attendance?

I guarantee you that these pieces of shite are the primary suckers who fork out $70 grand for their kid to attend "elite athlete fantasy camp".......aka IMG.
