would he say? Unfortunately......

He says 2005.

He was asked about what it will take for UGA to win another championship to go with with our last one by Mike Bell yesterday and he got a little testy. Rather awkward moment followed and Dooley quickly lists UGA Championships in 1981, 1982, 2002, and 2005 then added almost in 2003, 2011, and 2012.

Hopefully we are starting to rid ourselves of this mentality with VD aging, JT2 moving on, and others no longer working on the inside.

Dooley did some good things at UGA but the guy NEVER had the desire and fire to elevate the program to elite status. Beat Ole Miss, UF, GT, and get a win over his Auburn every other year and that was winning.

I truly believe the new staff is in place to shift the goals up a notch or two. Dawg Bless them it they do.

There is no doubt the culture has changed. Maybe just timing but I credit Pruitt.

AD is on board.....now if administration and campus/ ACC popo follow suit we will initiate a reign of terror on the SEC.

Ummmm he's exactly correct.

If the interviewer wanted to know about national championships he should have specific. Is an SEC Championship not a Championship?

I asbolutely do too. But I mean vince's answer isn't wrong.

I think CMR has his best staff at UGA and this may be the best staff at UGA since Erk left

There are no words to describe what Erk did running the football team at Georgia. WIthout Erk there would be no Vince Dooley at UGA....

He was talking NC and it was obvious to everyone except VD. I'll give him a bit of a pass as he is aging and has been ill, but his concept of a championship is as described.

1) Clearly not obviously. Especially if it was worded how you did it in the OP where you saimply asked "won its last championship"

2) Why would an interviewer ask vince dooley what year UGA won its last national title, since he is the coach that did it?

Uh, hey coach Richt...what year did you start coaching at UGA?

He makes a freakin living RAILING on UGA and CMR...cannot believe VD even agreed to be on his program.

The guy is a first class arse clown who knows little if anything about UGA FB and called for CMRs head on many occasion...frick that guy.

The only thing he has going for em is his sense of humor.

If you feel the need to criticize an 83 year old man on the eve of the most anticipated Georgia football season in a decade, then you really live a sad little life.

So...he'd take a "World's #1 Grandpa" trophy at face value, then?

I agree.

When I was a freshman at Georgia in 1964, It was Dooley's first year as coach and every Georgia fan was excited about the possibility of Georgia becoming a legitimate football school that could play at the same level as the best teams in the nation.

Dooley may have made his share of mistakes along the way but no Georgia fan should ever forget that Dooley and his staff turned that possibility into a reality and now Georgia is known for always having a good football team that is tough to beat.

BTW, this Yankee is proud that this is my 51st year rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs!!!!

Go Dawgs!!!

Then you have been wrong for years.

Were you at UGA when Dooley became the coach in 1964?

I was and I remember that Dooley began the hard work to rebuild Georgia into a football team that was respected by the elite football teams like Alabama.

In 1964, Georgia beat #9 ranked Florida 14-7.

I was at the Georgia/Bama game when Georgia started the 1965 season by beating #5 ranked Alabama 18-17.

In 1965, Georgia also beat #7 ranked Michigan State 15-7.

In 1966, Georgia beat #7 ranked Florida 27-10, #5 ranked Georgia Tech 27-14 and #10 ranked SMU 24-9.

In 1968, Georgia tied #9 ranked Tennessee 17-17 and #15 ranked Houston 10-10 and beat #13 ranked Mississippi 21-7 and #12 ranked Auburn 17-3.

That's pretty damn good for Dooley's first 4 years as coach.

Georgia had a 201-77-10 (.715 winning percentage) under Dooley.

Georgia went to 20 bowl games in 24 years under Dooley including 9 bowl games in his last 9 years as coach.

Georgia's record was 83-21-4 during the last 9 years that Dooley coached.

Georgia had only one losing season (5-6-1 in 1977) during Dooley's 24 years as coach.

LINK

That's elevating Georgia to elite status in my book.
