Verne does the play by play but Danielson is the best analyst IMO. Gary's not well liked on the SECrant but he's so good he often predicts the best strategy and individual play calling. He also often sees/predicts penalties before they are announced by the referee and I usually agree with his assessment. In other words he really knows the teams/players and the game of football in general.

My favorite team is Nessler and Blackledge. I wish CBS would go after them. Sean McDoungh is awesome too.

Best ever was Keith Jackson. Best now is either Brad Nessler or Dave Pasch.

Worst is Thom Brennaman (Fox moron who called UGA/Hawaii Sugar Bowl).

Dave Archer is also a very good analyst but he's stuck
with lower tier ACC games that nobody watches. He's also excellent on the Falcons radio broadcast.

Horrible.Dave Rowe was equally horrible as a analyst for the old JP SEC games.

Anyone that calls Kirk Herbstreit "Herbie" drops like stone in my book.

The three Daves were bad enough to make me want to try and rupture my eardrums, but Brennaman calling the UGA/Hawaii Sugar Bowl was absolutely shameful.

Ron Franklin was the best to call an SEC game in my life time imo . The worst is the female currently working @ESPN. Franklin with Godfrey in the booth , and Adrian Carston on the sideline were the best .

Yeah, you'd think anyone in broadcasting would be required to have a pleasant, or at the very least, neutral voice. "Grating" probably isn't what they should go with. If they want to go with a woman, at least try Holly Rowe or someone like that.

Nessler and Blackledge are also my favorite and it isn't a competition. I enjoy their broadcasts so much because you can tell that they are not only very prepared, but also invested in each game they call and the players from each team. Anyone can rattle off "next level stats" but I feel like both of them are diehard fans who could talk hours on end without repeating themselves.

A perfect example was during the Clemson game yesterday. They went on about Watson, the Gainsville HS team, and the proximity of the town to Athens/Clemson. Anyone could have said "Watson from Gainsville, GA former 5 star recruit blah blah blah" but they mentioned the name of his HS team (Red Elephants), their colors (red and black), and also the name of some diner where the locals gather to talk HS football. The attention to detail that they bring to every game is what sets them apart from the rest.

I like Danielson a lot, but Vern needs to be put out to pasture. He has really fallen off in the past 3-4 years and is constantly ruining the flow of the broadcast by having to correct himself when he calls out the wrong number, mispronounces name, or just spewing other inaccurate information. It wouldn't really bother me if it happened once or twice a game, but it is so bad that it is comical.

The best by a very wide margin

Gary and Verne are tired and don't even try to hide their biases anymore. It's just two old unlikable dudes bullshitting during the game.

Agree about Nessler and Blackledge but lets not carried away about Nessler's detailing of Watsons hometown.

Nessler lives in Duluth and has always kept up with all the local sports teams (used to be Falcons play by play guy) including HS FB.

I don't think he has the same details of Watson's hometown if he'd been from Texas or Louisiana.

Yeah I knew he lived around the greater Atlanta area, and I agree 100% that he wouldn't have been as detailed if it was some kid from a small town in northern Iowa, but he still does stuff like this pretty often even if it is not as in depth as it was yesterday.

I guess the main point I was trying to make is that when talking about a star player he rarely goes the lazy route like so many of the other ESPN announcers with the "Former ESPN top 150 prospect John Smith", and will normally atleast include the hometown/highschool and even sometimes even mention former HS teammates who are playing at other D1 schools.

No doubt and it's even worse during the bowl season.
The broadcast teams are dredged up from the depths of
the sportscasting pool.

Hopefully we get a good pair for our game. Not sure who we have in the booth.

Nothing like listening to the 3 Daves call a JP Sports Duke vs. Wake Forest noon kickoff from back in the day

Nessler and Blackledge are really good. I like Chris Fowler and Kirk Herstriet as well. Kirk knows his schemes and gives pretty good insight for the average fan.

Verne and Gary suck! They rarely know what's going on and are continuously wrong when calling what's happening in the game.

Go to YouTube and watch some The 2007 UGA/Ga Tech game. Nessler and Blackledge were calling the game. CBS shouldn't have let them get away.
