Boston has 37 championships. Well 5 are in hockey, so really 32.

Atlanta has 1.

Life is unfair.

Nobody in the media is going to talk about the mysterious way the refs called bogus offensive holding calls against Atlanta but not the obvious offensive holding calls against the Patriots during the comeback.

After Atlanta recovered the onsides kick there was a holding call against Matthews that should have been defensive holding. The defensive linemen was grabbing Matthews jersey, but the dumb ref saw a jersey being grabbed and wrongly assumed the offensive linemen was doing it.

A couple of those defensive holding calls were questionable but what killed me was the PI at the end of the game. I just don't think you should call end zone PI on what is effectively the final play of the superbowl unless the defender straight up tackles the receiver. I'm sure New England still would have scored but just thought it was a weak way to end the game.

All that being said, coaching lost the game for Atlanta. Running hurry up passing offense with 5 minutes left in the game in field goal range up by 7? What the hell was the coaching staff thinking? I know the Falcons have the best offense in the NFL but you use common sense there and drain as much clock as possible and make it a 2 posession game.

We didn't lose because of the refs, we lost because of awful play calling when we were in field goal ranger

We lost on 3 plays.
3&1. Avg 7 ypc. We line up in the shotgun and fumble
Sack after Julio catch where all we needed was a FG to win
Next play holding. Out of FG range

A bogus 10 yard penalty that killed a drive in Patriot territory while the Falcons were up by 16 didn't cost them the game?

I think the refs did cost the Falcons the game. And I will always think that and become aggravated about it and for the rest of my life.

Sure, the Falcons screwed up, but if it wasn't for the refs cheating in the 4th quarter and OT, they win that game.

Defender didn't turn his head. It was a legit PI call from what I was sitting. Receiver probably catches the ball otherwise, so it was a risk that the defense makes a goal line stop instead.

i have been laughing at people trying to use the ref excuse, as well as the excuse that the OT format isn't fair.

If anyone thinks the Falcons lost because of refs or the OT format, they are delusional. You don't get excuses when you give away a 25 pt lead in a quarter and a half.

Really look at what you just said.

A 10 yard penalty...
While in Patriots territory...
WHILE UP 16...

cost them the game? No, I'm absolutely certain that did not cost them the game. Atlanta lost:

-when all the momentum in the universe that they had instantly went out the window when freeman missed the block and ryan fumbled
-they were up 8 at the pats 30 late in the game and were forced back out of FG range
-they couldn't stop tom brady to save their life the entire 2nd half

From a "former" St Louis Rams fan, I'm with you on the hate game. I will always dislike the Pats forever for what they did in our Superbowl match up

Going into that game I felt like the biggest Falcons fan. 1) Because of how much I hate the Pats 2) a buddy from high school plays for the Falcons, unfortunately he didnt get to play due to injury.

Redemption is a beautiful thing tho

I hate Boston too (dad grew up when the Celtics were dominating and that hatred has stewed through the family for 50 years).

That said... all of the calls against the Falcons were legitimate. The only argument can be made that the Pats didn't get the same treatment as the Falcons. I wasn't on the field and I haven't rewatched the game, so I don't have an opinion on that at the moment.

Your certainty is misplaced.

Atlanta goes up by 23, if not for that bogus penalty.

It's easy to look back at a game and try to find one or two critical plays or calls (or no-calls) that changed the entire game, but the fact is that the Falcons' defense was gassed. If the offense was able to execute better in the 2nd half to make up for their defense, they probably would've won. The Pats were down by several scores in the 2nd half and one penalty on one drive didn't cost Atlanta the game, or it shouldn't have if they were able to play at the same level as they did in the 1st half.

However, the city of Boston is quite awesome. Spent quite a few days that as it was our hub when stationed in NY. And the ladies are nice, too.
