I think it's because they expected to be somewhat competitive in those 3 losses. Also, the schedule ended up a lot easier than we thought it would be.

We played 3 good teams and lost all 3. Two of those games we never had a chance. Richt is stale. It's time to move on.

Florida and Alabama are better teams with better players. Tennessee is a toss up in that regard and the game was as well. You need good players to beat good teams.

We expected USCe, Auburn, and Ga Tech to be worth a damn. With those three having a down year, there is NOTHING positive to take from this season.

Why is it an acceptable excuse to say Alabama and Florida have better players? One, isn't it the head coach's job to bring in talent? Two, those games weren't close (and Florida certainly doesn't have that much more talent than UGA). Three, it opens you up to the counter argument that Georgia's 9 wins were simply the result of having better players (considering only 2 victories came against opponents with even 6 wins maybe that is the point though...)
And for the record. Florida's average 4 year recruiting ranking is actually slightly worse than Georgia's (24/7 sports). Honestly though, unless you're name is Alabama then you are playing on the same field talent wise as any other major school who recruits in the top 10-12 every year (UGA, UF, AU, LSU all fall within 2.5 ranks nationally of each other over the last 4 year average)
