Just got a new honda generator and wanted to see how good the signal was for off air locals in Athens. Going to use watch espn and slingbox mixed with an off air setup.

Over the air channels being broadcast and picked up using an antenna.

So that would literally be "on air" not "off air"...

Or am I just a moron?

OTA over the air or else ATSC (advanced television systems committee).

Roku doesn't offer anything that my pc wouldn't already get as far as locals go. I have a slingbox but wanted something for locals not dependent on Internet in meyers quad.

PT681,Watch ATSC TV on Android Phone/Pad
There are other ways to watch ATSC on some devices. I doubt that they work well.

I live in Albany, GA where a person would think OTA reception would be good but I would probably need a good antenna raised to about 30 feet to watch any channel. I would expect reception in Athens to be even worse because Athens has more hills.

Some people use Plex to send TV streams from a home computer over the internet to remote locations but it takes good connectivity. If I were to do this I'd use a networked HD Homerun Prime three tuner device from Silicondust. The HDHR Prime requires a CableCard rented from a cable company and outputs via ethernet. In October Silicon Dust is releasing DVR software that has features like Windows Media Center plus it can be remotely controlled. There is still a potential problem with some TV channels if the cable company tags them copy once. In that case, the channel can be recorded but it can only be played on the computer it was recorded to.

Pirated TV streams can be watched anywhere there is a good internet connection using Kodi enhanced with Fusion add-ons from TVaddons.com. Kodi works on Windows, IOS, Android and Linux devices. Unfortunately, the illegal way to view content always seems less problematic than the legal way.
