I've been all for him coming on board since this first came out but I did not think he was serious but I guess I was wrong. But, some pretty good quotes from the future HOF'er.

Constantly begging for a job through the media is busch league and raises red flags, imo...

I agree but I still want him on staff while he's remotely relevant to the teenagers.

I'm on board. It isn't about money for him as he would likely be taking a significant paycut from his cushy gig with NBC.

His quote about being irked and upset when Georgia players leave the State worries me a little. We can't sign every top player. A recruiter needs to sell UGA but be willing to accept the recruit's ultimate decision. That said, Hines could be a big asset.

I agree. His alma mater currently employs a WR coach. He shouldn't undercut him.

If Hines Ward wants to coach, he needs to take a support staff role for 1-2 years. He won't, but I wouldn't hire him until he does. Being a position coach isn't some retirement hobby.

Ward is smart enough to know he needs to do support role first, and that's what he is likely gunning for, so it's not Busch league.

If he just wants to be involved somehow, like in a support role, then hey why not? But people simplify this WAY too much, same as people who think we'd recruit a #1 class every year if herschel was RB coach or something.

Hines was a terrific WR and a DGD, but he's never coached the position. Recruiting is a small aspect of the job, but coaching is the most important. I mean that's literally the job, to coach WRs. And there are people out there who have done that for a while and are more skilled than Hines who has never done it before.

Ok, so let's bring him in a support role and show them rings off!!! Well, problem with that is support positions dont' recruit, not on the road anyway.

So ultimately, if we have room and a need for another person, sure why not bring him in. I mean it coudln't hurt anything. But to bring him on as an actual assistant coach is just not logical.

I'd say it's more like 90% of it, but it's about effort and time commitment, not flashing SB rings.

meh, I'd rather have a coach that can take in 3* guys and make them play at an elite level over a guy who can recruit 5* and has no idea what to do from there.

You need both obviously, but Ward's alleged recruiting prowess (which is all speculation, he's never recruited before either so aside form being an alum and having a SB ring we have no clue about his abilities) would be offset by his lack of coachign history, IMO.

Not exactly a percentage play. Give me Dameyune Craig over Tony Ball every time.

I don't think a person who is a good communicator will have a difficult time coaching a position he knows very well.

I don't know. I think we could do far worse. If we could carve out a spot where he could be a coach to get on the recruiting trail and also "earn" his coaching stripes, that would be great - I don't know if we can.

Rocker went from a very short relatively undistinguished pro career (as compared to Hines) to 2 years as DC at a high school to a position coach in college.

Is Hines smart? Check.
Has he played the position extremely well at the highest level? Check.
Does he really want it? Check.
Is he passionate about UGA? Check.
Is he a champion? Check.
Has he been exposed to great coaching? Check.
Is he a leader? Check.
Would he be a great recruiting asset? Check.
Does he have experience coaching? No.

Seems the positives greatly out weigh the negatives to me.

Sometimes you take the diamond in the rough, especially this diamond.

Can you imagine the blocking that would be going on with our WRs!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's my thought. Either come and start as a low paid analyst and work your way up or stick with NBC, dude. If he's truly serious then come work your way up.
