I'm actually not. Double major at UGA, neither in journalism. I did spend a fair amount of time working for the mouse/world wide leader though, so pretty familiar with show construction and some of the do's & don'ts.

Also the intro song is horrible. It tells the listeners 'this is going to suck' right out of the gate.

It is like THe Front Row in that regard.

They got rid of the song, thankfully. It was a huge detractor for me previously for sure.

You must be talking about Front Row, the bad song in OP 'podcast' is still there.

The worst part about the Front Row intro is they try to play quirky silly outtakes with the intro music, but they aren't all that quirky or silly or funny. It's really forced.

I can't believe they got rid of Rude, but still have Steak Shapiro. He is awful.

They should fire Steak and replace with Larry Wachs.

This one had not been getting on my nerves, but it's bound to do so now that you pointed it out. I'm kind of ok with it, as it *seems* as though these guys don't talk to each other at any point during the week other than the podcast (don't know whether that is the case or not). Were they "pros" I'd probably grade that a bit harsher though.

I would also suggest that you try to get a former Dawg
player as a guest. These days with social media it's really not that hard to approach someone (doesn't have to be super famous) and most love talking about their
Playing days.

I don't listen to every episode, but this week they did get a guest from the Clarion Ledger to talk about the Miss St matchup. I'd agree though, an occasional DGD guest would be a nice addition... though I will say that Brandon Adams' segments with former dawgs tend to be pretty awful. That of course could just be because he's not great. (I know most people's opinion of him... suffice it to say I'm not a "fan", but I don't hate on the guy too much either. We'll call me slightly negative leaning BA neutral.)

Ah, sorry. I had already broken from OP's podcast. Was talking about Glory UGA dudes, who used to have an awful/abrasive metal song to kick off the show... which could work but their energy levels just didn't match it.

Dunno if Front Row still has song. I work remote/travel a lot more so don't spend as much time listening to 680.

+1 on Steak... he's pretty awful.

ETA: hah, kind of skimmed your post... didn't notice we were pretty in sync on the theme song/show dynamic... it's gotta match or it's just really awkward.

The reason I suggested it was because I just didn't hear ANYTHING from either that was interesting, insightful or something I didn't already know.At least a former player would give the show SOME kind insight or opinion that I hadn't heard before.
Please God,don't ramble off game stats unless is something really outstanding or historical.

Not a huge fan BUT he gives out definitive opinions and
says it with confidence and the same can be said for Steak even with his obnoxious delivery. It's exactly what they teach in the sports talk and opinion business. Now you have to obviously be able to back up those opinions with a degree of knowledge.

The intro and first stanza/chorus of Bulldog Bite. It's upbeat and unique - artist was Clisby Clarke or something like that. It's about as Georgiacentric as you can get.

Closing should be Georgia on my mind by Ray.

I don't know what kind of copyright issues you run into but I doubt that's a big deal at this point.

Intro song should be the last of your considerations. Who is your target audience?

The Dawgcast uses the Redcoat Band as their intro - not Krypton specifically but close enough. Don't want to appear to be copying existing podcasts IMO.

I'll help.

For a football podcast it would have to be 18 to 40ish males in the broadest sense. I would guess most podcasts are listened to traveling to, from and during work...so it would need to appeal to the working/professional class.

You could go for the unemployed disability sidewalk fan niche - which would be an entirely different approach.

Songs a little daTed and not much appeal to the younger set.Do they even play the song on the pre game show anymore?

Agreed - but it's up tempo and you really only need 20 secs for the intro.

Wait...I got it...Jawja Boyz.

18-40 male fans isn't a niche.

He's got to get it more specific than this.

Example-
14-19 white male Georgia fans in zip codes a,b,c,d,e,f,g

At this point, I think none would be better than what you've got. I would agree with Rig, too. Not something I would focus on. The song won't make your podcast successful, but it will darn sure drive people away in the first 5 seconds if it's BAD.

Less location and more "what are we knowledgeable about" "what can we talk about with authority"... and then "who gives a shite?"

Are we tactical/technical football fans who break down Xs and Os?

Are we recruiting junkies that keep up with high school players through the recruiting process and therefore know about roster depth and "hidden gems" that might contribute?

Are we "yes men" who provide happy talk to the Disney Dawgs OR Debbie Downers to please the "negadawg" crowd... or do you have people that balance each other out to some degree for the "realist dawgs".

*Most* people are looking for affirmation, not information (probably my favorite quote from Colin Cowherd... say what you want about the guy's sports knowledge, he understands the business inside and out). Figure out what you do well, figure out who would be interested in listening to it, and then hit the mark over and over... once your audience grows, you'll need to adjust/evolve based on comments/suggestions.

That's all I can do for you for now. Currently, I can't make it through a whole episode. If you give me a link to what you think is your "best" episode and actually want feedback, I'll see what I can do.
