I saw a youtube clip of Norm McDonald's last appearance on Letterman a few days ago. At the end of his stand-up routine he gets all choked up and breaks down in tears and tells Dave that he loves him.

I've watched Dave off and on ever since he got his first late night show with NBC. For me, the older Letterman got the funnier he got and his humor became very sly and subtle. The monologues weren't all that great but the off-the-cuff stuff was terrific.

Stephen Colbert might not be all that great as a talk show host. The Colbert Report was very good with Colbert acting like an idiot but, without a script, Colbert doesn't work for me.
