This is why we are struggling so much this year and why its gonna take time. We are rebuilding. Does that excuse the performance Saturday? No...I thinkt he team quit...I think Kirby needs to work on motivation both pre and during the game.

But with this much adversity in that class, its no wonder we are so fricking thin at spots.

Mental toughness is definitely something that needs work. I am hoping this can be improved on with Smart....and I believe it will improve. That is not something that can be changed/improved on overnight.

Wow, a post about the 2013 recruiting class! About the thousandth time someone has
brought it up.

Yea,we ALL know the class turned to shite but we've also had 3 consecutive top
10 recruiting classes since then and will have 4 after the 2017 is signed. As good
as a recruiter as CMR was he never signed 4 consecutive top 10 classes. Our 2017
roster will more 4 and 5 star kids on it than in the history of our program and recruiting
rankings. This should be a VERY quick turn around for CKS next year and beyond and
there's also enough talent to compete this year in the SECe.I expect us to come out
this Saturday and compete against UT.

RD. Agree 100%. However, 7th in the nation is 4th in the conference. Also, there is a difference in being top 10 because you have big uglies or being top 10 because you have a 4 star qb that is now a punter, and 5 star receiver who can't catch the ball.

Actually it goes into detail about bouth the 2013 and 2014 classes and how many from those classes actually play. Its staggering. We have had a lot of attrition in this area.

Who knows thy it happened, but it did...lack of talent eval? Coaching? Bad atmosphere? Mentality? Those are the burning questions...why so many problems with our recruits?

When your QB choices are Lambert or True Freshman, it doesn't matter how good your previous classes were. That position, alone, means so much in modern football, that you have to expect to have problems.

Yeah yeah yeah... Bama is also starting a true freshman... something Nick Saban has never done... for a reason.

QB hasn't really been a big issue tho.

Although... here is a perfect example of where depth is hurting...

Wide Receiver

But we have tons of 4 star guys and a 5 star!

Not enough.

Team A: You have a pool of 8 4* WR's and a 5* all competing for 3 spots...

Team B: You have a pool of 13 4* WR's and two 5*'s all competing for 3 spots..

The team with the deeper pool of talent is probably going to field the best 3 starters, especially considering you are staggering them all out across several classes and age/experience ranges.

It's a numbers game.

ETA across classes...

12 4* OLinemen competing for 5 spots
3 fresh
3 soph
3 juniors
3 seniors

16 4* Olinemen competing for 5 spots

4 fresh
4 soph
4 junior
4 senior

Which team will probably field the better OL?

I understand your point, and agree with it in principle. But, I would like to see how we compare to, say, Ole Miss, or LSU or Auburn in this regard. We recruit very similarly or better than those programs, so i can't imagine that there is a great disparity in the numbers. (And I would be shocked if ANYBODY had the time to go and look all that information up!)

I actually did look this up and ran numbers back in 2014 and posted them all here.

It was OL and DL I did the numbers for.

UGA was behind all the other Big 6 teams in recruiting depth (numbers) there, but our star ratings were similar.

You can probably search topics started by me and find it.... might have even been 2013.

2013.

This research needs to be updated.

TLDR basically Bama keeps 5 more linemen on the roster than UGA, and they are slightly higher rated. As of 2013.

That's OL+DL.

I've always thought that only schools like UT had armchair, misinformed fans. I'm starting to see that we are loaded with those types as well.
