I didnt think we would go undefeated at all, 9-3 would be fine
Richt went 8 - 4 his first year. He won less than 9 games 27% of the time the last in 2013. And he won less than 9 games 3 out of his last 7 seasons.
Its been 4 games.
So chill the frick out.

Forgot Maurice Smith, yet another grad transfer.
Ah! I forgot him, too. There's nothing wrong with grad transfers. Ideally, you don't want to build a team around them, but Smith has definitely been a pleasant addition.

I'm chill Whopp
We got rid of Richt to compete in big games and win them, correct?
Not only did we not compete yesterday, we got our shite pushed in. I get that this is his first year and we are only 4 games in, but the product on th field is worrisome, imo.
Ill be glad to eat my crow though.

The 2013 class is really hurting this team right now.
Nono! I am not arguing that point. You are correct. We lost some good players. I am not sure it hurt us as concerning depth, though. We have the depth at DB, which is where we lost the most talented members of that class. And, I think I would rather have Maurice Smith for the one year over Tray Matthews, anyway. of course, we had a couple of guys that just didn't pan out, but every team has had that. But you are right about the 2013 class hurting us.
quote:
Ole Miss has a lot more talent than we do.
I'm not sure about that....but I can't argue the point either. I mean, what are you going by? recruiting rankings? Then they are not more talented. Maybe their players fit their scheme better than ours does right now. I can see that. That comes with a coaching change and just has to be worked through.
quote:
Not saying Kirbs is perfect, he is learning on the job but I think that anything he does this year definitely has to be pretty much 50% put on Richt for leaving this mess.
And here is where i would take issue. Richt won 10 games with MOSTLY the same guys, and I would argue that this roster is as talented and maybe more talented than what Richt had last year.
Eason alone makes the passing game better and more effective. Our running game should be better because we got Chubb back and added Herrien and Holyfield.
Offensively we SHOULD be better, but we are not.
I can see a step back defensively because we lost our two top pass rushers. But everybody (Us, the experts) thought carter was going to be a beast. So far it has not panned out. Is it defensive scheme? Development? Lack of effort on his part? Who knows? but we hardly have a mess. By next year, the 2013 class will no longer be a factor, so everybody wanting to lay this at Richt's feet will no longer have that to fall back on.

It's just too soon to freak out but not too soon to be worried.

In fairness a lot of us felt the same way about y'all when Richt was here.
It wasn't true then, and it isn't true now....at least, I hope not.

Agreed 100%.

I actually think it's too early to be worried. I still think Smart was the right move and think we will be improved when he gets more of his players in here. But, I do tend to be more of an optimist than most on this board!

Why would I pull against success for my alma mater and a program that I have been following for 2 decades?
I will say this, CMR was a great guy and a really good football coach. However, I didnt diasgree with his firing. I didnt like how it was handled, but I didnt disagree with it.
Getting embarrassed in big games is what got him fired. So, I think the new coach needs to be held to that same standard.
I'm not saying fire CKS, but in his first chance to make some noise in the SEC he got embarrassed. And thats worrisome imo.

quote:If we're getting blown out in games next year and the year after, with teams that are made up of players Kirby was responsible for bringing here, it'll be time to spam the board with threads about him not being a good coach. A lot of people, including myself, just aren't going to freak out about a very very young team getting blown out on the road against a pissed off team with an explosive offense.
So, I think the new coach needs to be held to that same standard.

and that's fine. I never asked you for your opinion, nor cared.
You were the one that seemed like you had a problem with my opinion, so I explained.

Ever since NSD we've heard from some in here that this was the most talented team ever and we were going to the SECCG and maybe to a playoff spot.
That's a yearly thing. Hell, we routinely have people who plot out scenarios where we can still win the title as a 2-loss team.
