National QB Efficiency on 3rd Downs

Fromm is earning his team's respect here.

He has definitely earned mine. The young man just seems to be a natural born QB.

That's a weird split. "Passer Rating"

The better split is that on 3rd down, he is only completing 58.8% of his passes and is 48th in the country.

This is my favorite QB (passing) stat.

Yards per attempt.

Stidham is the clear leader.

Gap.

Patterson/Etling/Fromm

Smaller Gap.

Lock
Franks

Smaller Gap.

Everybody Else

Gigantic dropoff.

Nick Fitzgerald.

I like this stat because it takes into account both completion % and yards gained on the completion.

So a guy could have 70% completion but they are all 2 yd passes, this YPA stat accounts for that.

Or a guy throws bombs all day, has some really big passes, but only connects 50% of the time. YPA accounts for that.

YPA, Fromm is doing very well.

Stidham scares me.

That is a good stat.
I tried to use conference games only, but Fromm didn't make the list (too few attempts I guess).

But I do have ypa against winning FBS opponents.
YPA against FBS winning teams

How is that a weird split?

I'm with you on this. For the first time in a long time, Auburn looks like a concern. I'm actually not really worried about their backs as we have shut down some pretty prolific runners; however, our passing defense is something we've yet to be really tested on. I think we're going to get some insight into that on Saturday.

This is thanks in large part to the dropsies by Hardman and Co.

This is why I hope we have all our starters back on Defense by this game. Especially Big Trent!

Dj,

If I can't figure out what a stat is measuring after ten seconds of looking at it, I dismiss it as 'weird'

It's just a peronal thing.

You could chalk it up to efficiency. Nothing wrong with YPA if that is how you measure efficiency. But getting 9 yards when you need 10 is factored in the qb efficiency. QB efficiency also treats incompletions differently (YPA treats an INT the same as an incompletion).

Everyone can have their personal preference though.
