Don't think the class of '77 which entered school in the fall of '73 was quite this accomplished...

DSJ will be here shortly to tell you how easy it is to get in based on his math skills...

It's absurd. I got in for fall 2000 but wouldn't sniff it these days.

I'm so lucky I think I was probably accepted in the very last incoming class that I'd be able to make out of HS. If I was a year or two younger I don't think I'd have had a chance.

Of course, people could just take the easy route like so many people I know did and go to Gainesville for a year or two and get straight As across the board then transfer in with no problems.

Out-of-state is a lot like UNC at this point. You better have a 4.0+ and 1400ish SATs to have a really good shot at getting in.

Have UGA's incoming freshman stats gone up more/less/equally as much as other schools? It seems like the standards have gotten much higher - I wonder if it is UGA specifically or just high school students in general that have gotten stronger.

It's an illusion of accomplishment; you'd do just fine. The supply of A students is inflating almost as fast as the supply of US dollars.

UGA has gone up more than most, but your average HS student is more accomplished than 20 years ago, especially in the southeast. There is a lot more emphasis on going to college, so more students put forth the effort to get there.

Wow. I would have been laughed out of the admissions office today.

4.0+ wasn't even a thing when I went, at least not in my school system. Also, the SAT scores scaled up, 1344 is probably equivalent to somewhere between 1100-1250 on the old scale.

That's to account for AP and Honors classes. A HS junior taking AP Calculus gets a bump vs his classmate taking Pre-Cal.

The SAT didn't get easier. Students score higher for a number of reasons, but 1344 is still better than 1200 in the old days.

Agreed about Hope. If it wasn't for Hope/Zell I imagine schools like Auburn and Clemson would have a lot more success poaching the academic talent from metro ATL. Gotta keep our good students in state just like our ball players.

I'm a dumb@arse then, I got in with a 920 SAT. It was the day of a Georgia game and the test was in the North Psych building which used to be above the stadium. It was such a distraction hearing the fans cheer when a good play was made.

I couldn't sniff enrollment now

Glad I was there in the 80's

The tests are easier now so you'd still get in. Or are we supposed to belief the recent group of graduates that can't find Canada on a map are that much smarter than the rest of us?

With Hope money and student loans it makes no financial sense to actively limit enrollment or run students off by giving them C's. Why else do we have some of the ridiculous majors we see today?

I don't buy it.
