Jefferson Pilot. One camera on the 50 yard line and nothing more.

Nobody sold it better than Greene. That's how you end up with this.

Actually, in hindsight, everyone sold that extremely well. What happened to those Dawgs?

got complacent with winning, plus BVG/Fabris left. That's basically the long and short of it.

BVG leaving was less of a problem than Richt's promotion of the "best man" at his wedding. That isn't to say that I wanted BVG gone, or didn't understand what he brought to the table, but he wasn't irreplaceable, IMO.

The Willie Martinez promotion was the first head scratcher move on Richt's part. By the end of that year's Sugar Bowl, I was done with Martinez, and had lost the faith in Richt.

I used to believe in Richt. Watching that video clip reminded me why. We were never out of a game. We always had a chance...

frick me. I'm Archie Bunker. The old LaSalle sure ran great...

I agree to an extent. For starters, he shouldnt' have gotten the job to begin with. However, he was SOMEWHAT capable for a time. The biggest thing TO ME was that BVG was the hellfire and brimstone character that was the antithesis to Richt's personality. When BVG left and we didn't have that anymore, our dynamic suffered. I also agree we shoudln't have held onto wm as long as we did. I guess I more agree with you than disagree.

Well that I wholeheartedly disagree with. I know this is big time football, but you don't fire a coach after 1 season unless he is woefully bad like schottenheimer is. WM wasn't BVG but I mean he was pretty damn good for being a first year DC. Look at some of those scores.

Meyer, Miles, Saban, Spurrier, Freeze, Mullen, Sumlin, etc... came into the league. The coaching in this league is light years ahead of where it was when Richt was winning championships.

If every coach you mentioned was there 02-07 I doubt we'd have seen much of a dropoff.

Meyer- was there for 3 of those years, Richt went 1-2 in those years.
Miles- richt went 1-0 in that time span.
saban- richt went 3-2 in that timespan.
Spurrier- left before 02
freeze-
mullen-
sumlin-

Our 02-07 run would still be incredibly good, especially 02-05, regardless of who else was in the league.

I can't disagree with your reasoning, and I can't disagree that it is bad business to fire a coordinator after one season, especially if the product hasn't statistically taken a nose dive (which it did not in Martinez' first season).

My reasoning came from watching the defense progress (or regress, rather) over the course of that season, culminating in the blowout first half of the Sugar Bowl. Martinez usually was an adjustment coordinator, meaning that his defenses performed better in the second half. It was almost as if pre-game preparations with him consisted of "well, let's get out there and see what they do, and then we will adjust at halftime."

I can't remember him once, especially in that first season, making in-game adjustments. It was frustrating to watch, and a red-flag for me. Then we went into the WVU game, a game where we were bigger, just as fast, and more talented, and were completely outclassed to the tune of 28-0. The Rant melted, I melted, CHD overdosed, SBJ introduced the el Guapo avatar in honor of Senor Martinez, Cheer shot his dog, Ugazag let an innocent man get convicted, and leghumper arse gassed ten patients during regular cleanings.

It was a mess, and combined with the original promotion, keeping WM despite his obvious shortcomings ended my Disney affair with Coach Richt.

I miss that affair. I do...

People will be giving tickets away because your son goes to GSU? What is he majoring in? Genocide?
