You think? You think maybe that defense that Fromm faced wasn't as good as the first string?

I guess we will find out in the fall.

the poise you saw in one of 15 spring practices? FFS the guy has never played in a game yet and you're comparing him to one of the SEC's best all time QBs.

Fromm did look pretty nice for his experience, but you can't take ANYTHING away from a spring game. If that was the case Ronnie Powell would've been a 3 time Heisman winner. This is a PRACTICE viewable by the public, Fromm hasn't sniffed anything resembling an actual competition while at UGA, so for that reason you can't make any comparisons with him and eason. All you can do at this stage is just say the guy looks good.

Fromm won

From was also competing against a defense made up of 3rd and 4th stringers.

I thought Fromm looked better too, but to say he's the clear winner is asinine. Anyone remember Jonathan Rumph? Spring ball superstar? I don't ever remember hearing his name during the season.

Yall do remember Mettenberger wildly outplayed Murray in the spring game in I think 2010? Yes Mett got kicked off the team but it seemed like Murray was the guy based on everything but a spring game

Mett was throwing go routes to Marlon Brown against white corner backs. But he was obviously the better player because he outplayed Murray going against that 2010 first string defense.

Eason lit up our 1st string defense for over 300 yards when they knew it was going to be pass-heavy. He got touched and it was considered a sack when he could have scrambled away from some of those in a real game. He also could have muscled in a rushing TD if not called down by contact.

Eason looked inconsistent but improved over the game. He should be fine after a summer of growth.

Also a little on Fromm, does anyone really think the TD pass of the deflection, wouldn't have been picked by any 1st team defense . That was not a good throw. And the 2 point conversion pass should have been batted down if not picked by a staring DB.

Nothing about yesterday was even. It was 1s vs 1s. (Passing the ball practically every play) and 2s vs 2s-3s-4s.

I understand Fromm is a GA boy, but the homerism needs to be reigned in. If JE is not the QB or is not ready to roll by August , the Dawgs are in serious trouble and there is no relief in sight.

After the spring game last year a lot of folks thought Eason looked like a world beater too.

It has nothing to do with homerism. It's about beginning to rocognize that Eason might not be the guy to get the job done. I want whoever gives us the best chance of winning on the field and maybe that's Eason - maybe not. Lambert had 4 years of experience and yet everyone clamored for a freshman because he had more upside. Now the story is that anyone suggesting Fromm over Eason is stupid because he has a whole year of experience and we don't want to start a freshman. It doesn't make any sense - even for our fan base.

He was 16 of 36 in a scrimmage and took who knows how many sacks. I'm not staying start Fromm - but I think it's a definitely possibility we'll see plenty of him this season if Eason struggles.

based on what, a scrimmage? Both QBs we have combined between them have a true freshman season under their belts.

well only 1 of the QBs has ever played in a college game before, so I'd say as of this moment he gives us the best chance to win.

Lambert was not very talented at all, the only thing he had going for him was experience. Eason was 10x more talented than lambert could ever think of being, which obviously is not the case of fromm compared to eason.

He was a freshman when he started so what were you basing this on? A scrimmage?

Based on what? A scrimmage? Eason has a strong arm and is tall. Besides that where is the evidence of all of the QB talent I keep hearing about? His footwork is questionable, his passes wobble, he over and under throws his passes, he tries to look his receivers open....I mean when does all of this talent eventually show itself?

Eason was the least experience QB on our roster when he was given the starting job. Plus he played in what? One college game as a back up?

I hope Eason steps up...I really do...but he sure didn't look much better yesterday. Maybe it was the play calling or good D or whatever ... but he really needs to tighten it up or he may lose his starting job to a freshman....which has happened MANY times before.

Are you really asking where I'm getting my opinion that eason was more talented than greyson lambert? Umm, I have eyeballs? Any and every recruiting service and ranking you could ever want to reference? Awards, accolades, etc. I mean afterall stafford was but a TFr when JT3 was a senior but I think it was pretty clear even before MS took a snap he was the more talented of the two, wouldn't you say?

Are you drunk? Eason was infinitely more talented than lambert, not based on a spring practice but just because that's the way it is. There isn't the same gap with fromm and eason.

You mention all these concerns you have about eason, without pointing out that fromm hasn't played one competitive snap in his entire life in college.

You can't really be this thick.

Of course Eason was more talented. That's my point. You play the player that has the best chance of winning - and sometimes that's a freshman. Which is a concept all of the Easonites have suddenly forgotten.

So Fromm is not a viable option because he hasn't played a snap of competive football in college but Eason was the logical choice last year despite the fact that he hadn't played a competive snap in college football. Got it.

We can't assume Fromm is as good or better of a QB based on his high school stats and scrimmages ....but we assumed Eason was better last year because of his high school stats and scrimmages. Got it.

So what would Eason have to do to lose his spot? I get that a lot of you can't fathom that perhaps Eason isn't the second coming of Joe Montana but at some point we need to consider what our Option B is if he keeps missing his receivers.

IIRC, he was sacked five times.

The pass protection seemed pretty spotty, but what was concerning to me was a lack of a "timer" by Eason. Just felt like he was holding onto the ball too long, and it led to at least one sack.

Honest question: if Fromm is the better player, why would you hope the lesser player starts?

Exactly...his decision making seemed slower and when he rushed his passes they were off target. Fromm seemed to get the ball out faster. Now maybe it's because he was playing against a bunch of slow white walk ons - but you either can hit an open receiver or you can't.

I finally watched the replay so I can participate in the offering of opinions.

The defense Fromm was throwing against sucked really really bad. Defenders waaaay off the receivers (credit to Fromm for seeing it and taking advantage)

This is what actually scares the shite out of me... we have no competent depth at DB.

The Eason vs Fromm debate is meaningless.
