Finally, UGA will have more commits than open spots on 85 man

roster.
We started this season with 80 recruited athletes and 6 walkons got ships. One OL had academic issues and lost eligibility. Deas, Vasser, Smith & Stripling, Murray, Wooten, 3OLs & Lynch. 10 leave, plus 6 spots, = 16.
We have 17 commits, and possibly one or two who didn't qualify last year.
And we'd love to bring in 1 or 2 DLs, an OLB or ILB or both, another corner, and at least one more WR.
I hope Lilly is better at guessing how much attrition we'll have in the spring and summer, and how many of our commits will qualify than Garner was.
Garner must have averaged 77 scholarship guys on the team by August his last 5 years at UGA. He didn't close well, numbers wise, and it showed in the fourth quarter, especially on special teams.
Wouldn't it be great for UGA to have 85 recruited scholarship guys on the team this coming August?

Excellent observation. Completely forgot about this.

You'd think our special teams would improve.

Not trying to be a smartass, but off the top of my head I don't think there's been a single off season in recent memory where we didn't lose at least 3 players.
This past off season, it was Flourney-Smith, the offensive lineman's name escapes me right now, and wasn't there one other transfer? Running Back named Malcome?

McGowan leaves too.... he was a walkon but got his scholarship before 2012 so I'm not sure if you are counting him in your 6 extras or not.

Per 247 we only have 1 early enrollee, Park. That sucks, it would be nice to have another 8 like last year. But anyway, that's another spot because we can count him toward another class.
The one or two you mention that didn't qualify last year, presumably would also be EE's that we can count to another class.

Malone, if we get him, will be an EE. So he essentially won't count toward this class.

He's the Tenn lock right?
ETA- back to the original post... oversigning is not something I'm cool with. I agree we should play the game and anticipate attrition, but I get nervous about the reputation of our program if we start doing too much of that. We've built rock solid relationships and pipelines throughout the southeast and it would be a shame to frick that up with one or two sloppy recruiting classes where some kids get fricked over.
In summation, I'd rather have 2 or 3 scholarships in our pocket leftover than have to play games with kids' futures and frick some people over to get down to the cap. Overall, playing with 70 is inexcusable, however... so I can see how the glass is half full with the current numbers and recruiting class.

It's a good thing we're a charity, not a business; otherwise, we might have to pony up a lot of money for a couple of people to make hard decisions.

I don't understand what you are saying. Explain it to me like I'm Deeprig9.
