Finished watching about 20 minutes ago. Was probably the best 30 for 30 they've ever done and just a fantastic documentary all around. Showed how dangerous the "guilty until proven innocent" mentality is. Only bad part is ESPN didn't show how they advanced that narrative as much as everyone else. Highly highly recommend.

I can't watch it right now but could someone give me a basic run down on what occurred? I was younger at the time so I really didn't know much about the case or the media around it.

I watched it last night as well. I didn't really pay attention to all of the details of the case when it happened because the media blew that case up to where it was obnoxious even thinking about it. The documentary itself is fantastic and blew my mind at how easily the lie was spread due to the media running away with the connections to racism, white privilege, and male dominance. As soon as I saw that the New York Times was one of the first major media outlets to cover this incident I thought "Oh, no wonder this spread like wildfire before the facts came out". Oddly enough, this case reminded me of the Steve Avery case just in how these 3 kids were already assumed guilty before the trial started and were unfairly characterized by the media before any facts came out.

It was so fricked up what happened to that lax team. It's a whole other topic entirely, but there should be a harsh punishment for a woman who cries rape just to get attention...

It is absolutely terrifying how the system is set up to ruin a man's life when it comes to cases like this.

Rape is no joke and obviously it should be taken extremely seriously. But this case just proved that all it takes is a female saying "yeah I was raped" and you're in a world of deep deep crap even if you didn't do a thing wrong.

The Duke Group of 88 is absolutely infuriating.

IMO all 88 of them should have been fired immediately.

I just now got a chance to actually watch it. Mike Nifong is a complete piece of shite. The DNA guy from the private lab is a complete piece of shite. Mark Gottlieb was a complete piece of shite. The world is probably better off without people like him in it.

It comes as absolutely no surprise that Crystal Mangum is in prison.

It just sucks for those three players in particular but especially any player on that team that no matter what they do in life, they'll always be connected to this rape case because of Mike Nifong.

That should be required for everyone to watch so they can see the problems with jumping to the conclusion that any man accused of rape is automatically guilty.

Imagine if the three kids came from families that did not have the means to hire high-powered attorneys. Say a family that had to take out a second mortgage on their home for a $25,000 lawyer who, while perhaps competent, did not have the man-power and staff available to pour through the +20,000 pages of DNA research that Nifong threw at the defense team and would then miss the major frick up by the private DNA lab.

The book should have been thrown at Nifong and he should have been put in general population with the guys he put behind bars, just as a warning to other unethical prosecutors who might want to violate one's civil liberties in exchange for advancing their own political career.
