We're also still $12.6 million under the cap after signing our draft picks.

Now to break down the defense and what Quinn has done. I'm going to compare position by position to what Quinn had in Seattle just to get the perspective of what he's done here. It's pretty amazing how similar we now look to the size, talent, and physical makeup and attributes of Seattle's players.

Ok I'm going to go from left to right and make comparisons:

LEO (9-tech): Vic Beasley - 6'3 245, runs 4.53
O'Brien Schofield - 6'3 260, runs 4.63
Stansly Maponga - 6'2 260
Compares to: Bruce Irvin - 6'3 245, runs 4.55

RDT (3-tech): Ra'Shede Hageman - 6'6 310
Tyson Jackson - 6'4 300
Compares to: Tony McDaniel - 6'7 305

WILL: Justin Durant - 6'1 235, runs 4.51
Japlo Bartu - 6'2 245
Compares to: KJ Wright - 6'3 245, runs 4.75

NT (1-tech): Jonathan Babineaux - 6'2 300
Paul Soliai - 6'4 340
Grady Jarrett - 6'1 304
Compares to: Brandon Mebane - 6'1 310

MIKE: Paul Worrilow - 6'1 240
Nate Stupar - 6'2 240
Compares to: Bobby Wagner - 6'0 240

LDE (5-tech): Adrian Clayborn - 6'3 280, runs 4.73
Cliff Matthews - 6'4 275, runs 4.83
Maliciah Goodman - 6'4 275, runs 4.85
Compares to: Michael Bennett - 6'4 275

SAM (9-tech): Brooks Reed - 6'3 260, runs 4.68
Kroy Biermann - 6'3 260, runs 4.75
Prince Shembo - 6'1 250, runs 4.71
Compares to: Cliff Avril - 6'3 260, runs 4.62

SS: William Moore - 6'0 220, runs 4.51
Kamal Ishmael - 5'11 210, runs 4.53
Brandon Bishop - 6'1 210, runs 4.59
Compares to: Earl Thomas - 6'0 205, runs 4.43

FS: Dez Southward - 6'1 215, runs 4.38
Charles Godfrey - 5'11 210, runs 4.58
Akeem King - 6'3, 214, runs 4.43
Compares to: Kam Chancellor - 6'3 230, runs 4.62

LCB: Desmond Trufant - 6'0 190, runs 4.38
Phillip Adams - 5'11 195, runs 4.50
Compares to: Richard Sherman - 6'3 195, runs 4.56

RCB: Robert Alford - 5'10 190, runs 4.39
Ricardo Allen 5'9 190, runs 4.61
Compares to: Cary Williams 6'1 190, runs 4.57

NCB: Jalen Collins - 6'2 205, runs 4.48
Compares to: Jeremy Lane - 6'0 190, runs 4.50

So as you can see, we're obviously a bit off in size of our CB's, but Collins fits the mold and will probably move in to one of those outside CB spots eventually. We also don't have a Kam Chancellor, but hopefully Southward can make up for the difference with his much faster speed.

Everything else is VERY close to identical. Durant isn't 6'3 like KJ Wright, but he's much faster and that's probably more preferable at his position. It's pretty clear that Quinn is trying to clone the defense he had up in Seattle, or come damn close to it. This should be a huge turn-around from what we've had the past several years.

Night and day with our defense. Great work Beef but it wouldn't surprise me if by the end of it, Jarrett is starting.
