I was curious to see what this board's opinion is on Coach Fox. Ever since Thompkins and Leslie left, the team has been pretty terrible. There's so much talent in the state that he hasn't gotten (except Kentavious), and I don't know if he is good enough with X's and O's in order to overcome the lack of talent. If next year's team is as bad as this year's (pray to God that Kentavious doesn't leave), I wouldn't mind looking for a new coach. How much time do you think he has if things don't turn around in the coming years?

He's a decent xs and os coach but his recruiting, in the state of Georgia in particular, is awful. His O requires a good big man and we have none on the team at the present moment.

Hard to say. Fox is in his 3rd season at UGA. He was 123-43 at Nevada and won 3 WAC Championships and the WAC Tourney in '06. He took his team to the NCAA Tourney 3 times and got to the 2nd round twice.

He has not duplicated his success at UGA now in his 3rd season. He has a 50-46 overall record but a losing conference record, 19-29. Can only conclude that: the SEC is a much more difficult conference than the WAC in BB and Fox possibly has had less talent than he did at Nevada. I think he is a good coach but is not recruiting well enough to be competitive in the SEC. We could probably do better for big bucks but otherwise he's about as good as we can get on the cheap considering he's making less than half (1.3 million for 6 years) of what we are paying Richt. We should probably let him finish out his contract and if we don't see marked improvement, time to move on.

His time is up and should not even be allowed to finish the season. He is not necessarily a bad coach but he is a TERRIBLE fit at UGA. I have many reasons for my stance here are my top 3 though.

1. He can't recruit plain and simple. That may work at Nevada but this is the SEC and you have to be able to field a team of athletic freaks.

2. His style of play is for unathletic white boy teams. We NEVER push the ball on a fast break and if we have one thing going for us it is our athleticism. His whole half court offense shite will never work with the competition that we have to face in conference.

3. He is not respected by the players and it is quite evident with the effort on the court.

According to Wiki, the contract began in 2010 so I guess the duration is through 2016.

Can his arse. I know Florida is really good, but we looked clueless. How does a college team not know how to beat the press?

I'm honestly of the opinion that we give him more time. I think he's a good Xs and Os coach but you're right, the lack of talent is a killer.

The problem I see is I just don't know how Fox is ever gonna be able to snag all these big name recruits from in state. UGA obviously doesn't carry any weight when it comes to basketball and when a kid is probably gonna bolt to the NBA sooner rather than later, what recruiting platform does Fox have to stand on against UK, UCLA or any others?

The only possible benefit I see to UGA firing Fox is if the decision is made to then back up a dump truck of cash to some huge name coach's house to get him to come here. I doubt that would happen and in which case we'd be stuck trying to find another upstart coach to come in and turn things around.

I think with UGA basketball's reputation we gotta be patient here. It's not like with football where this would be a destination job of any sort.

Debatable. What Fox did have at Nevada was one great college player (Nick Fazekas) and good enough talent around him to win a weak league, and they pulled one huge tournament upset (2004 over #2 regional seed Gonzaga) to make a Sweet 16 appearance. His resume was solid but not good enough to jump from Nevada to an SEC program.

UGA should look at Brad Stevens. Someone mentioned before that Indiana is his dream job and he's holding out for it, but I think Crean will be at Indiana as long as he wants to be.

It Stevens is off the table, then Mark Few from Gonzaga should get a look. Maybe Shaka Smart from VCU. Chris Mack from Xavier would be another option. Xavier coaches have done really well when they leave for bigger jobs lately. Thad Matta (Ohio St) coached there. So did Sean Miller (Arizona). I think the late Skip Prosser (Wake) did as well. There are options out there, it just depends on how much money UGA is willing to commit to the program.

He's a terrible coach. He can't recruit. GT now owns him. Hire Pearl. I think he would bring energy to the University, and make everyone get interested in college basketball again. JH doesn't get enough credit.

He got a show-cause. He can't coach again until the 2014-2015 season.

Look at what Alabama has done since their new hire in Grant (the same year we hired Fox). They are MUCH better off than we are, and we have Atlanta (arguably the hottest recruiting bed for basketball) in our back-freaking-yard...

Can his arse and let's hire someone who cares.
