Is Eason suddenly afraid to take a hit? All season I've noticed that, when running the ball, he has a tendency to slide really early to avoid a hit. Under most circumstances, I get it. But on a 3rd and 2 late in the game, still with some hope of coming back?

He was standing pretty strong in the pocket earlier in the season and really seemed to have some cajones. But suddenly, he doesn't look so much like the second coming of Stafford in the "lay it out for the tough yards" category.

I'm not gonna get up in arms about a freshman protecting himself when he's got linebackers wanting to take his head off

Did you not see the hits he was taking? Everytime he dropped back he he was taking a hit.

He was taking hits the entire game. Also he got yelled at for taking some big hits not sliding against Vandy.

I think it will just come with experience. Playing as a true freshmen QB is so tough. When you throw in constant drops by the WRs, our weakest OL in quite some time and an offensive coaching staff that is not making adjustments to make it easy on him it is nearly impossible.

You want your freshman QB to NOT take a major hit. The particular slide you mentioned....yeah, he could have gone and possibly gotten a first down. But in a game which, essentially means nothing but pride, I want to keep him healthy. If he gets hurt and is on the bench he can't get experience.

Again, I understand why you'd do it in most circumstances. I just question why you don't go for the 2 yards you knew you needed at that specific juncture.

Stafford, as a freshman, laid it out numerous times to get that extra yard. He was criticized for it by his coaches, I'm sure. But, he had that "instinct" to get it done.

I'm still wondering what the selling point to him to stay committed. Chaney, OL, WR....a nice piece must have got ahold of him in Athens.

Kaaya in Miami is and was legit, no chance of starting there for Eason, but solid chance of starting at UGA, so he maintained his committment.

Qbs are taught to slide. He didn't vs vandy and almost died.

Florida was never in the cards for him. Never a consideration. He only took an official visit there because he had some to burn. He got caught on social media making out with a girl on his visit, and his gf back home saw it, and he immediately shut his recruitment down.

So why all the hand wringing worrying about firing Richt for fear of losing Eason if he wasn't going elsewhere anyway?

If Richt went somewhere that didn't already have a badass QB, then Eason would have went with Richt.

But Richt had Kaaya at Miami.

Agree and envious now watching Chad Kelly run and fight for every yard

It wouldn't surprise me if Kirby has never worked on QB slides. He's bogged them down with a zillion other details of "what if" minutiae but the big basics seem to fall through the cracks of his super detailed "process"

You are correct sir but I don't think it is "suddenly" because I have noticed it all season. Yes he is a QB and yes he is a freshman and yes many times it is correct to slide but there have been many instances, twice today among others this season, when he had a clear opportunity to get the first down but instead elected to slide...very early at that.

My take, beyond what has already been stated, there is a time to slide for a QB and there is a time to man up, be a leader and make the effing play that is needed for your team. He is a not a small kid and this is not bad-mitten...stop being so damn shy and lower your shoulder.

I will add, as others have already said, he does stand in the pocket and take hits there without hesitation. With coaching and probably film review, I think he will adjust and be fine. He just has to get over that mental hump he seems to have about the right time to slide or not.
