Does it take Smarts?

From everything I've witnessed and read about Smart, he's a very bright guy. He's also very hard-working. I've had personal conversations with Dooley, Goff, and Richt, and obviously seen them In the media quite a bit. I believe that Dooley has a pretty high IQ. I never met Donnan but in interviews he seemed bright but lethargic. Not to slam Goff and Richt, but I'm not sure how high their IQs are. Guys like Saban, Spurrier, and Meyer all seem to have the high IQ in common. This makes me think that Smart will be more successful than his three most recent predecessors.

I am on old offensive lineman so I am biased but Jim Donnan was probably the smartest coach we ever had....O lineman, especially centers, are usually pretty intelligent....
I have been in bunches of business meetings with one of the two QB's we have had as HC's at UGA since Vince Dooley and I can personally attest to the fact that this person is not the sharpest tack in the drawer....but he has good people around him....

I honstly don't remember ever hearing Smart speak.
I agree on Donnan. He's on the Ref every Tuesday and the guy is still on the ball and up to speed. And witty as hell.

Hmmmm, who could you be referring to? Is he affiliated with a company that rhymes with Yaxby's? If so, he's the one I knew best. Great guy who was thrust in a position over his head that he couldn't turn down. The man could flat out recruit skill players though.

He is sneaky and a back stabber.

Yep, and a heck of a tennis player. Hard to believe from his "Truman Capotesce" demeanor.
Actually Dooley was a QB as well. Every HC we've had in my lifetime was a former QB. Might be good to have some D-genes in the pool.

I never saw that....he is a very good negotiator. Had a reputation for being slow to pay at one time but considering the growth it was more or less expected......

Maybe he outgrew it in the real world. He stumbled into a gold mine...
