Stings quite a bit. Also, Millsap is deciding between us and Orlando. I just don't see PM as a max player but we can't lose him and DC. I just don't know what we are going to do about the SF position.

We also aquired Tiago Splitter.

You never want to trade with San Antonio.

Spurs just dumping Splitter's salary so they can make a run at Aldridge. He'll actually probably fit well with Atlanta, considering he's a great post passer and they run kind of the same system.

We knew shite would fall apart when the Hawks tucked tail on Danny Ferry. Oh well, back to the 8 seed and an early exit from the playoffs

Hawks didn't really give up anything and got a good big man in return. This was a total salary dump by SA so they can land Aldridge. Hawks have to keep Millsap.

Splitter is a huge upgrade over Antic. And he'll plug right into this scheme coming from the spurs. We had to have a big man and getting a good one wasn't going to allow us to keep Milsap AND Carrol. I like the move.

He's talking about the trade with SA to get Splitter, where we didn't have to give up anything really. I think Splitter will be a guy who will do well in this system so I'm okay with taking on his salary.

Sucks losing Carroll, but 15 million a year might be a little much if they are insistent Millsap at 20 a year.

It sucks that Orlando offered him that much, because now the Hawks are forced to match. I don't think he's a $20mil per year caliber player, but they can't lose him if they want to make another run next year now that DeMarre has left.

Yeah I was hoping we could get him for a little cheaper than 20 before Orlando had to make a run at him. You're 100% correct about us having to resign him now in order to make a run now that DeMarre is gone. We're gonna need guys like Thabo and THJr to be healthy and step up to fill that void next season too.

If Millsap comes back, it will look really foolish that the Hawks are paying a backup center $8.5M next year.

Agreed, and I think they can. DeMarre was a specialty defender before he came to Atlanta. Bud's system made him what he was this past year, no reason to think it can't do that for someone else.

I would take Carroll at 15 a year over Milsap at 20 a year in a heartbeat. Carrol played great all year and for stretches of time in the playoffs seemed like the only player we had on the floor.

Losing Carroll make the draft/trades landing a backup shooting guard look even worse. I would have much rather drafted Portis and kept Carroll, let Milsap go and sign Splitter. Then go get a backup shooter to Korver.

Love Bud the coach. Not too impressed with Bud the GM.

No doubt Carroll was really good for us last year but All-Star PFs are a lot harder to come by than Small Forwards who are good at playing in Bud's system. I think we can get similar production in that position for a much cheaper price than the 15 a year we would've had to shell out to Carroll. Also Carroll is coming off of knee surgery so that is something to take into consideration.

It's easy to forget that Carroll was literally a nobody when Bud started with him. I think Hardaway Jr will play a bigger role than some might think. Seemed like the Hawks zeroed in on him for some reason.

That is the only reason for hope though, I think. Losing your most versatile player, probably overpaying for Millsap if they convince him to stay, and making Splitter the 4th highest paid player on the team when he hasn't shown that he can be a starting center in the NBA yet...not really inspiring moves at this juncture.

You have to keep in mind that the salary cap is making a huge jump next year. Max contracts will increase by about an average of $40million. If that cap were in effect this year, Millsap's $20mil would take up about the same amount of space as a $12mil contract would under this year's cap.

Rumor is we're doing a sign-and-trade with Orlando between Millsap and Tobias Harris.

Orlando drafted Herzonja because they're not planning to offer Harris a max contract. Harris and Coach Skiles do not get along, apparently.

IF this actually happens, our lineup would look like this:

PG: Teague/Schroeder
SG: Korver/Hardaway/Mack
SF: Harris/Sefolosha/Bazemore
PF: Horford/Muscala/Scott
C: Splitter/Horford/Tavares

Supposedly Tavares is done in Europe and joining the team finally. He has been playing with the Hawks summer team for the summer league and this is why we've let Elton Brand go along with Pero.

There's a chance we pick up another center somewhere too. IF we do the Harris/Millsap deal, this will free up another $4M, which will put us about $9M under the cap still.

I would be okay with that scenario if it plays out like that.
