Where is the poster who thinks Ramsey is jesus incarnate?
Posted on 5/29/15 at 1:07 pm to Jefferson Dawg
He was behind Murray and Mason. That's not anything to be worried about. Both of the backups last year looked good enough to hand the ball off and occasionally hit the deep passes to keep teams honest.

I've got no inside info, but I have to believe that Ramsey is the guy. Just reading between the lines of Richt's words/actions.
Richt keeps playing this close to the vest, saying all three are competing, all three could start, etc.
Recruiting transfers plays to this as well.
Hopefully, this would spur Ramsey to get better and lead this summer, because he is the most ready to play.

Looking for a transfer?
Adding fire to the competition?
Hoping someone leaves?
Taking two QB's next two years?

Exactly! Murray couldn't get it done. And neither could Mason. So, how is Faton Bauta, the third stringer to both of these cats going to get it done?
Seriously, Porter. Log off and go bulk up your firewood supply.
Winter is Coming..

that's SthGaDawg.
We really don't have an exact comparison for Ramsey this year, in that it's a redshirt underclassman that has some game experience. The closest would be Greene in 01 or Murray in 10 I guess (redshirt, new starting QB). DJ, JT, Staff, Cox, Mason don't fit the bill. In those 2 QB's first years starting:
Greene: 59%, 2800 yds, 17/9. 4 losses.
Murray: 61%, 3000 yds, 24/8. 7 losses.
Our defense this year will be light years better than 10s, and probably better than 01s as well. The offensive supporting cast this year should be better than both of those.

I'm not optimistic about our QB play this year, but I do think we can still have a good season without what we've typically seen at QB under Richt.
Last year Mason completes 68% of his passes and goes 21/4 on TD to INT.
We had 3 close games and went 1-2 in those games. Florida blew us out, and we dominated every other opponent.
With worse QB play we only had one game that would have been clearly loseable last year since we only won 1 close game (Tennessee, other games could be argued of course).
I think our surrounding parts on offense will be similar in ability (better in some areas, worse in others), and our defense will be a good bit better.
The point of all this is that we don't need stellar QB play to have a solid season. I don't think Ramsey can lead us to the SEC title, but he also doesn't have to be 2012 Aaron Murray for us to go around 10-2.
Not saying 10-2 is what I want, just saying we're gonna be all right if QB play is just "decent"

yeah never said that...I have consistently stated that he is the starter coming out of the gate this season and I still believe I am correct...the guy is way better than anyone here gives him credit for...Murray/Mason spoiled a lot of us with the low turnover margin due to low interception numbers...BR will probably throw some...don't commit suicide too early though Dawg fans...you complained about Mason's ability to thro the deep ball effectively, but loved his low interception rate...well....in some situations, you can't have your cake and eat it too...you want a cannon arm like Stafford but no turnovers...well...that probably isn't going to be BR at the beginning of this season...he needs to be able to experience his growing pains on the field on Saturdays just like any other qb...at the end of the day...as of right now, I feel he is the best we have...and so do the coaches I would wager...

This is sooo hypothetical it can't really be debated. I mean...Mason wasn't a GREAT qb, but he rarely put us in position to lose games. You can't just take last year's games, input brice at QB, and think the results would be the exact same. There's no telling how our games last year would've gone had our QB threw 15 INT instead of 4. Those are game changers.

of course he's our starter. What you've also said is that richt and bobo have been "grooming him" to be the next big thing at QB and have had those plans in mind since he committed to us, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. Ramsey will be looked at like blake barnes, JT, Cox, and Mason...a serviceable/good QB that is keeping the seat warm until the next BIG QB comes in and is a multi-year starter to lead us to big things. Everybody knows our next 5/6 years of success are largely going to be based around Eason.

The talent difference between Eason and the current crop is undeniable. That being said, Mason was a 3 star small arm QB and we won games with him. Just have to minimize mistakes and work with what we got.

No doubt that 10 extra int's are a game changer. I'm just saying that worse QB play coupled with improvement elsewhere (mainly Defense is what I had in mind) will equal something similar to last year. At least that's how I see the season playing out.
9-3 or 10-2 regular season.

I can't group Mason in with the others, dude had heart & did the best he could do with what skills he had to work with...
21 TD's & only 4 int.'s were fonkin' outstanding, kid just did what they asked of him, played within himself & might be the most cerebral QB we've had since David Greene... Hutson really had an outstanding year & didn't really lose a game for us all year. Hard to blame SCe, UF or even GT on him...
JMO but Mason was outstanding with everything factored in...

I'm not saying that group of guys sucked, I'm just saying they weren't a medium/long term plan. We knew for a while that Mason was going to sit behind Murray, hell we even redshirted him just so we could have him for '14. Barnes, mason, jt, cox...those guys were basically destined to fill in the gaps between greene/shock, staff, murray, and eason.

Yea, gun to my head I'm picking 9-3 right now. But I do think 10-2 is more likely than 8-4.
