quote:
Nick Saban put on his go-to-press-conference face and did his duty Monday in advance of The Game That Will Frack Athens Wide Open.
Or, as it’s known in these parts: A Saturday.
Big games have become fairly routine for the Alabama Crimson Tide. And when the hyperventilation begins, Saban is well-practiced at playing the role of paper bag.
There is one thing he said Monday about Georgia that bears some notice. It could be just about the greatest compliment he’ll ever pay an upcoming opponent.
“They look a lot like some of our teams of the past,” Saban said Monday. “Very physical. Don’t make a lot of mistakes. Don’t beat themselves much. And they play with a lot of toughness.
“They are very aggressive on both sides of the ball,” he continued. “That’s the kind of team we’ve always sort of aspired to have here, and it certainly looks like that’s the kind of team they have developed there.”
So, in other words, Georgia’s attempts at lifting from the Alabama model may be having some effect.

Why is this stickied?
Good question. Kind of an embarrassing thread title too since he never said anything close. And it makes us sound like hacks.

Daddy coming to town.
We'll see if we are grown up.
Win this one, and I'll start drinking the Kool-Aid and welcome Ole Piss or LSU either one in Hot 'Lanta.

He wasn't really complimenting Georgia...he was using his presser to once again speak to his team through the media. He tells the media that UGA looks like some Bama teams from the past...its just one of many brilliant motivational things he does.

Agreed. It would actually be pretty easy to turn this into a compliment to Bama/himself and perhaps even an insult to UGA.

so what would have been a compliment? Those teams he referenced we look like ran roughshod through the league and won 3 national titles in 4 years. So saying we look like those teams looked...is an insult?
Geez.
Geez.

Ya i think it was a compliment to UGA AND a motivational footnote for his team.
Saban is a smug son of a bitch but he knows they are in for a dog fight Saturday.
We might lose, but heres to hoping we leave it all on the field.

He's describing his previous team as:
He could have made his point about UGA without including the fact that his previous teams were so awesome, but nope. Doesn't want to give us credit without taking his own. He's just being himself, an arrogant a-hole.

He's telling his current team that he doesn't believe they measure up to past teams by saying UGA looks like they are as good as past Bama teams. Thus inciting them to play with an angry purpose. He knows it's going to be a tough game and is looking for a little extra juice.
