Honestly that seems about right, as of right now. We just have too many question marks. UT SHOULD be picked to win the east because they're the most complete, and UF won the east last year and you typically see great strides in a new staff from yeaer 1 to year 2.

Honestly I like this, just adds more motivation for our guys.

Looks about right. We have just as much star power than any other team and I wouldn't be surprised if they play up to their potential and shock the world

As others have said, this is about where we should be. I do think we have a chance to be a really good team, but we have too many question marks to be picked any higher. Honestly, I'm kind of excited to play the underdog role (not a big one at that) for the first time in a while in the East.

Bit of a gift, actually. "Should" temper those with the tendency to place unrealistic expectations on a new HC with a new staff, while at the same time holding everyone to an appropriate standard given our history and talent level.

Also, our schedule is very favorable over the others. I like being picked 3rd. Go DAWGS!

Even Saban had a bad run his first couple of years at AL when he first got there. We' re in better shape than they were, but anyone that's reasonable would expect some transition difficulties. Especially given our QB and RB questions.

All of the CMR fanboys that call for 10 wins or else have a burr up their arse. Anyone paying attention can see that we've taken it up a notch even before the first snap. 3rd is very realistic for this year but I have a feeling that our intensity level and line play will be so far ahead of what we're used to that we'll be pleasantly surprised.

He went 12-2 in his second year and 14-0 in his third year. Even went 7-6 his first year and won a bowl game after a losing season the the year before he got there.

I wouldn't call that a "bad first couple of years."

We won 10 games last year and have plenty of talent. Anything less than that this year is a disappointment. Carry on...

That's actually not that bad when you think about it.

@mizzou will be tough but they're still a ways a way on offense to be competitive. Defense will be good though.

@ole miss. They're not the same team they were. Offense will put up numbers bc of Kelly but they're missing their core group on defense and best WR. Biggest factor is we play them right after they play Bama. Body blow theory and such.

Tennessee is favorable bc it's at home. Biggest home game of the season. So...fingers crossed there

Agreed, and the fanboys don't understand how depleted in the trenches Richt left this team. Richt would probably finish at best, third in the east this year.

The media has only picked the East champion once this decade

We have zero players on the pre-season All SEC first team defense. Only one on the second team (Sanders). Only one on the third team (LoCarter).

We only have three players on the All SEC First, Second and Third team offenses.

Kirby has his work cut out for him as he builds us up to where we need to be. We are not there yet, by quite a bit.

It's going to take at least this first year with Kirby to shake the CMR shite off their shoes.

Kirby has good building blocks, guys like Thompson, Bellamy, and Sanders on D, our RBs, and a kid with the potential to be the best QB in the nation. He also has holes in this team, though. DL depth is worrisome, untested talent at LB, average CBs, we lack proven offensive playmakers outside, and our OL was very mediocre last year. Kirby has a 9-win team. Anything more and he did a good job, anything less and he underachieved. Kirby has the makings of a great HC, I believe, but he's new at this. 3rd is a fair spot to peg us.

I think sometimes we forget that Kirby himself is a building block. I think he'll have an incredibly successful career as a HC, but this is his first year. Mistakes will be made, he will have to learn on the job like all of them. Add to that our OC is new, our DC is new, and just about every other significant coach outside of Tracy Rocker is new, and many of them have not coached together before. None of them have coached with Kirby as their boss.

King Kirby has had an amazing first off-season. But along with question marks on our DL, LBs, WRs, kicking game, QB, and even RB to start the season, we've still got question marks all up and down our coaching staff.

I'll be happy with 8 wins. Thrilled with 9, and ready to win the off-season National Championship if we pull off 10.

Regardless, our future is bright.

What? Funny how the narrative has changed. Those that wanted Richt gone dismissed his annual 10 win seasons as ANY coach could win 10 with UGAs talent and playing in the East. Now that Richt is gone the narratvie is, "Don't expect 10 wins! It is unreasonable!"?

That said, I think we should not "expect" anything. Let's let the season play out and try to improve every year. If we do that, we will get the results we want. I think most on here are quite happy with what Smart has done.

And by the way....the ONLY people I see bringing Mark Richt up on here are the people that screamed for him to be fired.

Our early schedule could be disastrous...we could easily be 1 and 5 by mid October...3 and 3 is very realistic......of course 6-0 is also...
