Another Taylor, this one is Tony.

Tony Taylor may be the most underrated defensive player in UGA history. He had better numbers in 2006 than manti te'o did in 3012 when he swept the defensive awards

George Poschner #41 Receiver
Played in the 1942 Orange Bowl and the 1943 Rose Bowl.
Poschner served in the United States Army in World War II, where he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Distinguished Service Cross.[5] On January 8, 1945, Poschner participated as a lieutenant in the Battle of the Bulge. While advancing into enemy territory, he was severely injured by machine-gun fire and did not receive medical treatment until two days later.[1] Poschner lost both legs and several fingers as a result of his injuries.[6][7] A New York Times report on Poschner's injuries observed, "His brilliant pass receiving added much to the reputation of All-America Frank Sinkwich, also of Youngstown, as a forward passer".[8]

Continuing the historical theme.

Mike Castronis was one of Georgia’s most beloved players and coaches. His career included playing football, coaching, and being an administrator at UGA. He was an All-SEC lineman from 1943-1945 and became a graduate assistant in 1946. Coach Mike went on to have a successful career as a high school football coach and eventually returned to the UGA in 1961 as head coach of the freshman football team. He coached the varsity offensive linemen from 1962-63 and later served as a coach under Vince Dooley.

The competition may not have been quite as stiff during that period. Apparently, there were big doings in Europe and the Pacific.

Has any QB ever taken a beating like Brennan did that night? It was beautiful.
