Well its been said by more than one source that Schott needs smart players to run his offense. that and lack of college experience is enough similarities to make you take a deep breath. but only time will tell

The more frustrating scenario is the lack of overlap with Chubb and Eason. adds to the sentiment of its either offense or defense with us. and never the twain shall meet

That may be so, but there's still a massive difference from D to O. On offense, you can have a guy who doens't know what he's doing and still ball out. If you're talented with the ball in your hands, you're talented. A WR could have a few missteps on a short route, but still catch it make a few moves and run 80 yards.

On defense, if you're out of place you're done. You have to know precisely where you're going and what you're doing...10 guys could execute flawlessly but 1 guy's miscue could lead to a touchdown. That's not nearly as evident on offense.

I'm not really worried about RB. We were worried about replacing knowshon. Then worried what would happen after gurley. Now what'll happen after chubb...we seem to be on a tear right now with very high level RBs so I would imagine we'll be ok.

Which brings us to Schottenheimer...........who according to testimony from the players does not spend as much time as Bobo did demanding that each detail is mastered. INstead, he moves quickly expecting everyone to keep up. Like drinking from a fire-hose, as they say.

FWIW... a coupla quotes on 247...

quote:

JSW, Mitchell & others told the media Tuesday that while Schottenheimer goes quickly installing the offense, the position coaches go over the finer points in every position meeting. The short install time equals more practice reps reps in the allotted 2hr practice schedule. It's no coincidence that the practice tempo has picked up.

The players are all on board and like how this is going. That's 95% of the battle.

quote:

With extra live reps, your position coaches get more opportunity to get hands on and correct technique WHILE you learn the plays and develop muscle memory. I actually think this is a really good approach.

Wasnt it 4 or 5 years between Knowshon and Gurley? that's not a tear. yea we're good now if the injury bug doesnt bite. Hopefully next cycle we reload

If we're talking about fielding a complete offense and not always one A++ player surrounded by B+ players it matters. Or having some solid pieces and going years with abysmal line blocking to blame

Not being negative about the future, just speaking on our history of putting an entire team together at one time. hopefully it changes

It was a 3 year gap between them, but my point was mainly that it's been easy recently to say "aw man I with QB X and RB Y could have played more together", when in reality it hasn't mattered THAT much.

Chubb and Sony will be juniors when eason gets here, obviously it's impossible to know at this point what they'll do during JE's sophomore year. But hey, by that time we may have another knowshon/gurley/chubb on our hands so who knows.

Jefferson,

I share your concerns. The transition from pro to college and vice versa is a large one. Some can do it, many fail.

Schottenheimer has coached 2 years of college ball as a position coach - 14 years ago. 9 years as a pro OC since and position coach before then.

To be not concerned about his transition would be naive. It worries me that there are reports of player dissatisfaction this at all and certainly this quickly.

We'll see how he does, but in my mind it is a helluva risk.

Defense has to be right 100% of the time. Offense only has to be right once.

Just like terrorism.

Best case scenario is that hopefully Schott will prove to be adaptable and a quick learner...in order to learn from and to improve and be able to fix all the mistakes he's going to make this year.

That. And that Pruitt's Defense has improved enough to pick of the slack.

All of which are tens of times more likely to happen to you than dying from terrorism.

Now we've got the offensive equivalent of Grantham with the defensive equivalent of Bobo.....which is typical.

I would like to revisit this analogy at the end of the season and see if you still think it holds water.

Until then I reserve judgement....

Anyone comparing Schotty and Bobo needs to just stop talking about football. Schotty has been a OC at the highest level while Bobo has made a name for himself riding the backs of Murray and Gurley. Where the hell was the Bobo love when he was running third and long play action passes with Stafford while green was "rotating" on the bench. To compare a second rate college coordinator to an NFL one is a joke.

Bobo averaged 41.7 points per game in 2014. And got a raise and a promotion.

Meanwhile, Schott took a pay-cut and went backwards. Because he wants "To work with young people. And mold young men."

Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!
