If internet and social media was around, Dooley may not have been able to bury all them skeletons... Different times though.

Dooley coached for 10 more years than richt so it's not surprising he has more hardware. I'm firmly of the belief that if something happened...it counts. Period. So yes, dooley got him a title and earned those wins, I'm NOT taking that away from him. However, if you look at what he did without the greatest college football player to ever step foot on the field, dooley won 3 SEC titles in 22 seasons. If we never got herschel, dooley would be looked at as probably a worse version of frank beamer.

I've been saying that for years.....'79 was a disaster of a season starting with losing the opener to Wake Forrest and yes Dooley was on the hot seat but he did deliver 80-83.
Richt didn't. And that's the truth.

3 of those SEC Championships were shared, so if you count those, then frankly you need to count Richt's East Chsmpionships... Even the ones that were a tie and we didn't go to Atlanta. Dooley also had 10 more years and autonomy the last 15.

I was a soph in 1968 when Dooley lied to his team and cheated them out of a chance to win the nc. The team voted to go to the Orange Bowl to take out number 1 but Dooley picked the Sugar Bowl. Team captain Jake Scott was so pissed that he quit school and went to Canada. I've hated Dooley ever since.

But he is not. You can't pick and choose and omit. He won six SEC titles and 1 Natty.
Richt is solidly number 2 for now followed fairly distantly by Wally Butts who by the way has a recognized Natty and 4 SEC titles but had some very lean years in the 50's until Francis showed up.

Dooley should never be credited for anything. Erk Russell and Herschel Walker should get credit but Dooley never had an offense. Three yards and a cloud of dust Dooley was a joke.

After dooley's 68 SEC title, he went the following prior to 1980:

that's 80-43-3 (63%) with 1 SEC title over 11 years. If things were then how they are now, dooley isn't there in 80.
It's tough. You look at guys like bowden and osborne who coached YEARS before winning it all. Heck I think it took osborne over 20 years. But this is a different era, I get that.
