Good article. We get so tied up in the here and now that we forget where we came from and don't think of the ones that came before us. I would have loved to watch him play.

95 years old.... imagine how frustrated he is about our teams inability to win the big game. He has probably seen every game since that 1981 natty. Hopefully ole charley is right, CKS is righting this ship!!!

Great article. Trippi is obviously an uncommon survivor of an age of smart tough men. This comment stood out relative to our current team and shows Trippi's common sense insight:

================================================
But, Trippi emphasized, you still have to have the best players. And that’s where he believes Kirby Smart is doing his best work as Georgia’s latest football coach.

“Kirby’s a good coach, but whatever Kirby does it all relates back to the personnel,” Trippi said. “You can be the best coach in the world but if you don’t have the personnel to execute, you’re ordinary.”
================================================

Translation: You only become the best by having the best players and coaches.

"Why is it that during recruiting season they sign all the great players, but when it comes time to play the game, we have all the great players? I don't understand that. What happens to them?"

Might want to edit that; doesn't make sense as is. I assume it should say: we don't have all the great players when it comes time to play the game.

Regardless, here's my perspective. Richt had top 10 classes pretty consistently but not top 5 classes; there is a difference. See Bama, Ohio St., etc. Also, the team we recruited was never the team that we fielded under CMR due to attrition which was not accounted for in his recruiting practices. Translation: we often did not have a full roster. Many of our best players (A.J. Green, Gurley, etc.)were too often not on the field due to devastating injuries and stupid shite like selling signatures. The net effect was that our fielded team was often not close to the same quality as the team we recruited.

Spurrier was making a statement that I begrudgingly agree with about all of that NFL talent that has played between the hedges over the years. Now when the statement was made Goof was coach but it has rang true IMHO throughout the years.

Not trying to be a downer but when I read Trippi's comment I was reminded of the one I posted. I'm enjoying the trend we are on right now and I have faith that Kirby's going to lead us to the land of milk and honey.
