Can someone tell me why Jake Ganus isn't in the NFL Draft discussion

Or is he? surely the kid has proved enough to be on a practice squad for somebody?

He is as a late round or likely UDFA possibility. He was in the Senior Bowl.

He wasn't invited to the combine.

He's a smart guy and understands football, but not the most athletically gifted IMO.
Wouldn't surprise me at all to see him becoming a graduate assistant in the next couple of years.

He's one of those war daddy linebackers that puts up gaudy numbers and is heady enough to lead a college defense but just not athletically gifted enough to stand out on an NFL team.

I think hes at least athletic enough to be in consideration for practice squad material im not talking about playing on sundays imo i think he could but thats just my opinion im talking about at least practice squad come on.. Hes a Hoss

I like Jake, but his stats aren't that impressive.
101 tackles, only 43 of those solo, only 5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 ints, no pass defenses, 1 forced fumble. And he runs about a 4.8x 40 at 6'2 235 lbs.
He'll get picked up as a UDFA and maybe get a shot at making a team, but that's probably as good as it gets for him, unfortunately.

JAKE IS A DGD and he is all heart, but it takes more than heart to tackle Cam Newton. If the nfl valued shoestring tackles, he would be getting paid.

Defensive stats mean little if anything beyone sacks and
tackles for losses.
Tackles are perhaps the most overrated stat in football.

I was a bit pissed when Ganus wore the UAB helmet in the Senior Bowl.
