Grantham's Defensive Changes
Posted by Buck Belue at 12/8/2012 12:39 PM
Categories: uncategorized

Coach Grantham is going to have a busy 2013. Todd is going to have to replace 12 starters. That's a lot of new talent to incorporate into his scheme. Got a lot of work to get done.
Seniors exiting are: Abry Jones, John Jenkins, Cornelius Washington, Michael Gilliard, Christian Robinson, Sanders Commings, Branden Smith, Shawn Williams and Bacarri Rambo. That's nine dudes who played a lot of snaps the last couple of seasons.
But wait; there are some draft eligible juniors who will leave too. Jarvis Jones is gone. Kwame Geathers might be out of here. Same for Alec Ogletree. So, the final tally is 12. That's 12 starters and 618 tackles this past season.
The D-Line needs rebuilding quickly. Garrison Smith is a stud. But who lines up next to him? Michael Thornton capable of stepping in? Lot of questions up front. No wonder we're after 8-10 DL in this recruiting class.
At Linebacker, Amarlo Herrera looks like a warrior inside. Ramik Wilson has the talent to elevate his status. But this unit goes from deep to questionable.
The 'Dogs Secondary get hit hard. We lose both safeties and two corners. Again, no wonder Richt's staff is going after DB's hard right now on the recruiting trail.
Obviously, playing time is a good sell in recruiting. All these guys want to play immediately. So, the void up front and in the secondary should bring in an impressive group of talent. But how many can really step in and play in 2013?
BIG QUESTION #1: Can Ray Drew take over at DE and be an impact guy? It's time to find out.
BIG QUESTION #2: Will Jordan Jenkins take over for Jarvis Jones and be an impact, playmaking talent?
BIG QUESTION #3: Does Coach Grantham find a spot for Josh Harvey Clemons?
If those 3 guys can step in and play ball, the 'Dogs Defense might be able to handle all of the new faces. If not, there will be concerns heading into Clemson.

With two more JUCO headhunter recruitments and another strong recruiting class, time in the weight room and big boy fundamental "coachemup" stuff, I'm actually not that worried about UGA's defense next year.

A friend of mine put it this way... "Coming into this season we had no idea that we'd have a running game, but here we are with two of the best running backs in the country."

We are behind vandy..sc lsu bama on defense. Is this where we want to be? Or we just settling for 5th best defense in the league. We had 10 of 11 starters coming back and we gave up 177.8 rushing yards a game. Our players are the best at talking about being the best. But when it comes time do it on the field they fail. Why is that? With the talent we have we should be top three in the sec every year. Kirby smart and derek mason are getting better results than CTG. It is what it is my brothers. Defense wins championships..when we had them up 21-10 the defense should of put the hammer down on them. I dont want to hear this tired crap...If the defense wants off the field get more 3 and outs. some of yall are delusional

bullshite.

Hundreds of yards and dozens of points were given up to cupcakes in the 4th quarter this year.

Saban's defensive stats are better because he leaves his defensive starters in until the last second ticks off the clock.

Okay in 2011 we were okay at stopping the run. But in the 4 losses we had we couldn't stop the run. Lattimore killed us and so did the mich st rb. This year we had just as much talent on defense as we did in 2002...but we couldn't stop the run. We will never win the sec again untill we get a DC who can stop the run. We played pretty good defense for about half the season but not the whole season...you have to do it the whole year if you want to win a championship. I will ask it again...what good offense has grantham stopped since he has been here??

I dont think rattletrap wouldn't mind seeing CTG..get canned. They are a few others on here to. The players should keep their mouths shut and prove it on the field...what they said really motivated the bama o-line to come out and whip us and they did. It is granthams job to keep them from saying crap like that to the media...But for two years straight we say something crazy to two proven sec teams and they run right through us. We couldn't stop kentucky from running right thru us and that is alarming

Florida this year had over 100 rush yards on everyone but Georgia. Also forced 6 turnovers in that game, which was more than they had the entire season going into that game. They had that stretch of 24 straight runs against LSU and put over 200 yards on LSU on the ground. That's a pretty good day in my book

You are right about Kentucky.

But to say that Grantham's job is to prevent our players from talking shite is ridiculous. I want our players talking shite. I want the passion and aggression.

Maybe you want Martinez back.

It's amazing that we didn't get penalized on every play, playing 12 players and all

ugafan77, you need to ask someone to explain fundamental football to you.
If you truly think the Vandy D was better that the Georgia D you really are stupider than you seem. Virtually every team that beat Vandy beat them handily and substituted freely on offense and defense. Stats alone mean nothing in comparison.
But feel free to show your ignorance anytime.

No grantham needs someone to explain fundamental football arse wipe. Look how many tackles we missed this year. We had alligator arms all afternoon against bama. I stick by my opinion i think we can do better than ctg...like uh smart or mason...ellis johnson. He is the 2nd highest dc in the nation and i just named three that are better than him. He is overated and their is nothing yall delusional jerks can say proves other wise
