Above Lambert, and Ramsey. He said he is making the throws the other two just can't make. He said he was tired of people trying to hide the fact that he is by far the best of the QB's

This was never a question in anyone's mind....the question is can he run a college offense this quickly. Can he handle college DL rushing him. Can he pick up audibles and read college defenses. No one ever thought he didn't have a better arm.

Well yeah. The reason anything is being "hidden" is because Eason still has a lot of work to do in terms of the playbook and footwork. He has all the physical tools but he still has those freshmen roadblocks to get through. I'm confident he'll be ready by September but he needs some time to get polished into playing shape

Yeah but Lambert has the arm strength to under throw those 10 yard out routes better than Eason

Officially, they're both listed at 6'5". But I see what you were going for....

None of our QBs have shown those abilities. Might as well go with the big, accurate arm and the upside potential. I hope Eason is the firm starter before SEC play begins.

I always thought in the back of my mind that we would go with lambert to start against UNC but give eason some reps, then play eason heavily game 2 against nichols state, then go from there. But based on what people are saying about practices I'm not so sure eason won't start. Obviously his big downfall is no real game experience (especially not at the level he'll see in the SEC), but Lambert is just so darn limited that it's not like his experience will mean a whole lot IMO.

Honestly, though, and I may be wrong here, I feel like arm strength isn't Lambert's issue. I think he just gets happy feet and throws with bad footwork or moving backward. I think he has an ok arm. Hell, his throw to Reggie at UT was on the money and a good ball. He had a few good throws during the season, just not on target. And he was usually too scared to go deep. Again, might be way off but I don't think arm strength is Lambert's problem.

probably the prettiest ball he's thrown in his entire career. That was an NFL throw.

I don't think lambert has any ONE thing to point to, I just think he isn't cut out to be an elite QB. He can throw it far enough, he can run a little when he puts his mind to it, he's cautious with the ball...yet you still get nervous whenever he passes. I never felt that way at ALL with mason, and they seem to have somewhat comparable skillsets. Difference is Mason just seemed to exude confidence and didn't mind taking shots.

The more I think about it, the more I'm not totally against eason starting game 1 and just letting him go.

I agree. This team isn't as loaded as that 2014 team. We all wanted Mason to start because we had so much coming back that throwing Ramsey in could hurt a real chance at something. Then Mason did fine. We didn't (I sure didn't) appreciate it at the time and when it seemed it was all for naught it seemed ok to have Ramsey get snaps.

But now? If Eason is close enough to the other 2 that it is a tough decision or at least close then yea, we benefit more from taking lumps now with Eason.

The only point of comparison we really have recently is 06. JT3 was never going to set the world on fire but you knew what you had in him. Divine intervention stepped in game 2 so stafford got his shot, and he royally sucked against SC. We shut them out, but he was awful. AGainst a bad CU he was even worse and got benched. Even with regular playing time and several starts, he never really looked all that "with it" til mid-November.

I guess if we go to Eason from game 1 that learning curve would accelerate a bit and the light would turn on for him some time around Jacksonville, but it's still kinda scary going into a season relying on a TFr at QB. At least Eason has everythign going for him that you'd want in the position anyway.

Squeezing that seam route to Mitchell between two Alabama defenders showed he has arm talent. He just doesn't have what it takes above the shoulders to be a good QB. His confidence seems to swing so wildly from play to play that it hurts everyone around him.

He set an NCAA record for completion percentage last season. He can get it done when he has time. His issue is when there's a pass rush.

Yeah, I don't know if his issues were not trusting the oline, or lack of talent. He got happy feet in a hurry.

Here are Tyler Bray's freshman year stats under Cheney:
quote:

125/224 (56%)
1,849 yards
18 touchdowns
10 interceptions
142.73 rating

Here is Greyson Lambert last year:

quote:

162/256 (63%)
1,959 yards
12 touchdowns
2 interceptions
141.5 rating

Although this comparison isn't exactly apples-to-apples, I think it safe to say we can expect more touchdowns, but some bad throws to happen, too.

I'm glad Eason is here early, hopefully he'll be a lot further up the learning curve come August.
