How does he being committed to Vandy effect the pick. Didn't we basically just throw away the pick if he goes to college?

Well, he'd be turning down roughly $6.5 million if he did so...

Yea, players picked in the first few rounds almost always go pro.

And the braves definitely reached here. But they did that knowingly because they think they can lock him up at 2.5-3 mil and free up money at 40/44. That's the idea at least.

Damnit, we needed a big bat. A 5-tool player that could come up and start for us in a year or two at most. Now we have ANOTHER freaking pitcher who won't play for 4-5 years.

I give up. This team is killin me.

They play HS baseball in NY?

Braves are trying to reconstruct '91 with defense. Remember when only 1-2 runs could win a game when you had Glavine, Smoltz, Smith, Avery, then Maddox on the mound? Fun times.

The Braves have a hand shake deal in place with the top prospect in Central America Kevin Maitan, he is a switch hitting SS who Atlanta's scouts compare to Chipper Jones. He is 17 and eligible to be signed next month, I think that is the main reason the first 3 picks were pitchers. This kid's skill set is supposedly off the charts.

Some of Anderson's stats:
In 2015, Anderson went 6-1 with a pair of saves and a 0.66 ERA in 11 appearances for the Plainsmen. He struck out 91 hitters in 53.1 innings of work and was subsequently named the 2015 Pitcher of the Year by Baseball America and Louisville Slugger.

They already have 2 "SS of the future". Braves are building a 10 year old all-star team. All players play short or pitch.

Well, frick.

I have not watched a Braves game this year and it looks like this will continue for a while.

To have 3 professional franchises for roughly a total of 150 years cumulatively and winning 1 championship is really unbelievable.

Add UGA football, basketball and baseball to the mix and I start not wanting to talk about it.

In terms of winning a championship in the next 5 years -

Braves - worse team in the majors
Hawks - peaked and Ferry is gone so expect further decline
Falcons - Dimitroff still there
UGA basketball - don't make me laugh
UGA baseball - ditto

Come on Kirby, you are the only shot we have!!!!!!!!!!

Yea Albies looks like the future SS, Swanson will move to 2nd with Maitan as the probable future 3rd baseman.

The braves wrecked this draft honestly. If they sign all of their picks they landed 3 of the top 7 high school pitchers in the nation and a switch hitting power hitter. They also have an early pick tomorrow.

The only draft grade ive read so far gave the Braves an A+ and said we were the winners of day 1.

This isn't about 2017 or 2018 it's about putting together a winning farm system. Right now we are probably going to continue trading assets and locking in more prospects but I would say our farm system rivals anyone elses. We drafted better this year than we have in years honestly. We actually had a plan and executed it.

Outstanding draft IMO

Unless they made some kind of trade, at #40 the Braves took 3B Drew Mendoza
