Interesting points, including how defensive coordinators seem to not have made the transition to head coach as well as offensive coordinators...

How often has one of them been Saban's DC for a long time?

Offensive coaches don't always transition well either

Personally, I think worse case scenario with Kirby is on par with Richt's last 8 years.

That's when I read it. But I don't think it's been posted in here. So sorry if I sounded snappy.

Agree. And even more so with the right OC and DC.

So UGA fired a great guy as the face of the program in the expectation of more and you guys are going to be satisfied with the least of his tenure?

Satisfied? No. But I think the deep seated fear is that you fire a Richt with the intention of taking the program to a higher level...but you wind up with a Derek Dooley. Or Ray Goff.

I think the point was that with Smart, it's pretty unlikely to would wind up being a downgrade...even in the worst case scenario.

2nd year as HC took Auburn to the BCSNC game. That's a loser?

Not really. Objectively the hiring of Smart immediately becomes a downgrade going from a highly regarded proven HC who has won 2 SECC's to a DC who has zero HC experience. Smart might prove himself worthy early on but that is a big IF considering the daunting task he faces in becoming the head coach of a major football program. I would really prefer someone like Tom Herman who is a proven OC with an innovative offense (that we sorely need) and 1 year of success as a HC. We have a good DC in Pruitt; what we need is a top notch offensive mind to replace Richt.

Used the same formula as Chizik. Works for a year with the right QB (and a lot of luck) but then other teams get wise.
