When Miss St spread us out, we essentially were able to snuff out their run game with 5 guys. That is our 5 guys against their 7 (5 OL, TB, and QB).

For the second game (Samford included), our DBs were constantly in the correct position. And this time we made plays on the ball over and over and over (the Samford QB had unreal placement and zip. The baseball analogy is to tip your cap, because we had good coverage most of that night too).

Our defense looked the best it has looked so far during Smart's tenure. Our DL is solid, our LB's are nasty and the DB's are playing smart by turning to look for the ball in man to man coverage without bear hugging the receivers. So yes, our defense looked like a top 5 defense last night but I also think that MSU's offense was overrated because LSU's defense was highly overrated.

Yes, the combo of talent and discipline has been really fun to watch. We've also got playmakers all over the field in Roquan, Carter, Sanders, and Thompson.

After rewatching the game today I was particularly impressed by Baker, Reed, and a lot of the depth DL guys.

We look good so far, but I'm going to need to see us sweep the state of Tennessee the next couple of weeks with dominant defensive performances before I think it's really safe to say that.

What's the best offense left on the schedule? Tech? UK? UF if they get their players back?

We still haven't played in a tough road environment.

That is the next test.

I won't say that one test is ever greater than another. But we do seem to be fortunate with our scheduling to be offered slightly more difficult challenges each week.

Not elite after only 4 games - 2 against quality teams. But if we shut down the Voles and Vandy I'll think we are a top 10 D.

Tech and it isn't even close

Think about that, the best offense we will see is a gimmicky high school reject offense...

Right now? Very good defense, but not an elite defense, not yet.

Of course it's elite.Bama,Michigan,Clemson and Auburn
are all elite but wouldn't trade our personnel with any and I think we're better than AU and Clemson

Thats a great observation. Each week is ramping up slighrly from the week before - culminating with probably our hardest games with FL, AU and GT. I like that TN is so down this year - their fans are going to be at about half speed next weekend.

elite...yes. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia. After watching a lot of games we are in that group. No doubts.

There aren't 10 high level defenses in college football.

Through 4 games (1/3 of the season ), did you know that we have given up the fewest TDs in the conference at 4?

Hard to say how good MSUs offense is BUT Fitzgerald is a fricking handful and we handled him pretty well.

I think just as impressive but undersold is our Defensive gamer against ND. I don't think the jury is out on their offense.....they haven't really played high level competition but they roll up yards. What did they have against us, 55 yards rushing in 60 minutes?
