This year is going to be a busy spring, but next year I might go down to spring training for a week.

Baseball isn't going to be very good this year. Just too many freshmen pitching and playing key positions in the field.

Isnt this supposed to be Stricklin's best freshman crop yet?

I played baseball my whole life. I can't watch it now. It's too slow.

Yeah, but I've been told they'll probably be starting freshmen at 2nd, SS, and CF, not exactly positions where you want to have to rely on true freshmen even if they are supposed to be good. Combine that with the fact we don't really have many pitchers with starting experience and I don't have a very positive outlook on the season.

I ca give a position-by-position breakdown but, essentially, Stricklin is in a tight spot this year.

Yes, this is probably our most talented and most highly rated freshmen group in some time. Problem is, we're going to depend on them heavily in the field, at the plate, and on the mound and Stricklin can't afford a 4th straight losing season; he has to win now.

We return Curry and McGovern who are solid hitters and fielders (particularly McGovern) but that's about it at the plate. LJ Talley showed some promise, Sullivan and Sasser had bright spots but were mostly meh. Logan Moody can be solid but has lacked consistency.

On the mound, Kevin Smith and Blakely Brown were inconsistent as freshmen but showed a lot of promise so let's hope they've turned a corner because, holy shite, we lost every possible returning starter we had in Tyler, Bo Tucker, Connor Jones, and Heath Holder. We also have Andrew Gist returning who showed the ability to start during some midweek stints, plus Drew Moody and Blake Cairnes as relievers (though they too were hit and miss). I'm particularly interested to see what Chase Adkins, Zac Kristofak, and Tony Locey are capable of doing as newcomers but moreso than past years, pitching is a big question mark (not that past years have been terribly stellar).

All in all, it may very well be the lowered expectations of a very young team that end up saving Stricklin but it could also be a harbinger of things to come. Personally, I'm pulling for the guy to make it work but it's hard not to have some doubts.

I don't have much faith that he can make it work. It's hard for him to get the best out of his players because he has a tendency to, how do I put it nicely, be an a-hole nobody wants to play for.

Smith i can get behind even though inconsistent he seems like hes got his pieces together, Brown worries me though.

Knowing what I do about the program, I think Stricklin does right in the way he pushes his guys to succeed away from the field. However, I've also heard and seen enough to know that he is not the Dave Perno type players coach that everyone associates with Georgia Baseball success and I think that rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

There is a difference between not being a players coach and going out of your way to have your players dislike you. I've heard enough over the last 3 years to understand why we have so many transfers and guys so eager to leave when they get drafted.

3 game series vs College of Charleston
3 game series @ Georgia Southern

West Schedule includes
@ LSU
@ Arkansas
vs Mississippi State
vs Auburn

Even with that 10 game home stretch against UAB, Xavier, Rider, Mercer and Presbyterian, I still see us struggling to be .500 this year.

It sucks that the SEC has so many great pitchers. We get to face Alex Faedo(Florida), Tanner Houck(Missouri), Alex Lange(LSU), and Kyle Wright(Vanderbilt), who should all be top 10-15 picks

I started a season long thread last year similar to basketball. Idk if I'm going to this year..I'm about tired of stricklin. The only thing he has left in his corner is a dynamite recruiting class, but you never really want to rely on that much youth in baseball. If we dont' make the postseason this year his arse shoudl be gone as well.

Tanner Houck(Missouri),

FWIW I've heard that we'll probably get Houck in the new Suntrust Stadium as the sort of dress rehearsal before the Braves inaugural game there. May be the one thing to actually look forward to this year

We need a stickied thread of failed HC hires by McGraity if/when this happens

I've posted it several times. I'll dig it up again in a second if you'd like. in a nutshell, every single program has gotten worse under his watch, mostly under his hires. It'd be laughable if it wasn't so fricking infuriatingly maddening. We laugh at "agent muschamp" doing our bidding for UF football, well...UF has the last laugh with agent mcgarity basically running our entire athletic department into the ground. It's sad, and frustrating.
