If the QB is rolling out on a run/pass option, and two receivers are running shallow cross routes, what would prevent one of them from blocking a defender legally, thus freeing the other receiver, or clearing out for his QB to run? If it's an option for the QB to run, the receiver has every right to be a blocker.

What's the call?

If he throws the block, it would no longer be a legal pass.

That's not the rule. It's either a run play or a pass play. If the pass goes past the line of scrimmage you can't block down field.

If there is continuous contact initiated by an eligible receiver more than one yard down field and the ball is passed more than one yard down field, it is Offensive PI

It should be but it's rarely called.

If the offensive player does not try to run a pattern, and runs into or interferes with the defender, then the penalty should be called. Florida State v Notre Dame a couple of years ago.

Those are the actual college rules unless they changed.

Yeah, I know. Still doesn't mean they call it very much.

That is true. I frankly am in support of pick plays as long as hand contact isn't made. At that point, it is a block. The play last night was technically a penalty and could easily have been called. The only defense of that would be the refs were letting Bama get pretty physical as well.

Leggett did a bad acting job but the refs bought it.

Is this a pick?

It was actually PI and a pick. He more or less pushed off the DB that was covering him and then got in the progress of the DB covering the WR that caught the pass.
It was probably drawn up to be a pick, but when the DB played Leggett close he had to block/push him off to get to the point to make the pick.
