Always good to make this rant in any thread We would have beat anyone in that title game for sure. But, yes Eason is going to be the GOAT.

Watching the '07 blackout game on SECN the other day made me angry all over again that we didn't win it all with that team, we were so stacked on both sides of the ball and came up so short. One of these days maybe everything will come together but idk anymore.

I will never forget or forgive Herbstreet saying "We've never seen anything like this before" in 2011 when Bama was in the same position we were in 07. That lying sack of shite. I don't care if Finley gets soggy looking at him. He's a lying POS.

Exactly. 365 days before our situation, it was no problem to advocate for Michigan to make the title game despite not winning their conference.

If he didn't think we belonged that's fine, but the hypocrisy of hiding behind "didn't win the conference" was maddening when you consider what he said literally one season prior.

I was as steamed up over 07 as everybody else was, but people need to realize we didn't get screwed out of anything. People have their blinders on 24/7 instead of taking a step back and actually looking at the reality of both years.


2007: Ohio State was a given. They were an absolute lock as they were 3rd goign into conference champ wknd, only had 1 loss, and won their conference while 1/2 went down. No use even debating OSU since they were a lock.

So that leaves who woudl play OSU. Yes, we were 4th going into staruday so everyone wants to say "1/2 lost, so 3/4 should slide up!" but it's not that black and white. Us, LSU, and Oklahoma all had an argument and all with 2 losses. Only difference is we didn't win the SEC while those 2 did, which ultimately gave those the better overall resume. It's perfectly reasonable that in the debate between those 3, it would go to LSU.


2011: LSU was a lock so no need to discuss them. The question is who LSU would play, bama or OSU. Now me personally, I think more credence should be given to who you beat (which would go to OSU as they beat several ranked teams) instead of who you lost to (which was a huge factor apparently), so I'm not saying unequivocally "yes, bama shoudl have gone". But there was only a debate between those 2 teams, and bama's only loss was by 3 to LSU in OT while OSU's was to isu. So I can see why they'd get to go.


Bottom line is this. In both years there was a clear cut #1 with no debate, and the issue was who they'd play. In 2007 the debate was between us and lsu. Both of us had pretty darn similar resumes, but they won the league (and we obviously play in the same league). In 2011 the debate was who woudl go between bama and OSU, and bama was determined to have had the better resume. I think herbstreit is a total arse clown and I don't really respect much of his analysis, but people thinking we got screwed is just sour grapes IMO.

The reality is

We were ranked 4th and LSU was ranked 7th and 2 teams in front of us lost so the natural order would be for us to have to lose or someone would have to make an incredible statement to leap frog all the way from 7th to jump us in the ranking. Instead, the media went into full attack mode against Georgia who was sitting pretty with all the teams in front of us losing never mind LSU had just recently lost a game but ignoring all that....the campaign that the media did was complete horseshite. If the voters wanted to say they improved 4 or 5 spots better than us after beating UT fine but the way it was done was mind boggling. Using that Conference title bullshite when it's convenient yet coming on and saying there is no better team than Bama or more deserving a few years down the road even though they did not win their conference is horse shite.

I agree that the media talking heads acted a fool and did a 180, I've always thought they were idiots but that's not my point. I fully agree that they're morons.

My biggest point was that 07 uga and 11 bama shouldn't be compared to each other. 07 uga and 07 lsu were compared to each other, and 11 bama and 11 osu were compared to each other. Different teams, different seasons, different circumstances.
