Immature white sharks are feeding along the surf as we speak. You can see schools of fish migrating 50 yards off of the beach, which indicates predators have flushed them to shallow water. Another reason they are close to shore, white sharks, bull sharks and tiger sharks mate from the GA coast to the North Carolina coast because of the warm water. If you’ve never seen a shark up close, it’s an amazing experience.
If you’re interested in following tagged sharks, I highly recommend OCEARCH Shark Tracker app. Mary Lee a 16 foot white shark is closer than you think. Look at her tracker, it’s amazing how close she really is.

I'm telling you. Soak a rock in saltwater over night and then tie it to the end of your fishing line and cast it off a pier.. Usey is right. Shark fishing does not attract sharks!

When I lived in Charleston, I caught more sharks than any other species. By accident. They are everywhere. But they are the little ones. Not the big ones.
They are always around, they just don't usually try to eat people like they have been lately around NC. That's the weird part. I think it's something like more shark attacks in NC in the last two weeks than on the whole East Coast in the last 20 years.

I follow Mary Lee a lot. She loves savannah area and swimming up shallow near Beaufort SC

She loves Jacksonville Beach, check out how close she has been to shore. She is also lurking in my favorite fishing spot, right out side of Pawleys Island. I’m officially addicted to that app

Outside of Pawleys? what area?

We were at Litchfield just north of Pawleys a couple of weeks ago..:the water was really clear and you could see huge schools of fish moving up and down the shore about 50 yds out like you said. So you know the Sharks were everywhere. This was when the first two attacks hit Oak Island too but what are you going to do? Come to the beach and not go in the ocean?
That's just one of those things where you roll the dice every time you get in the water...

My future in-laws have a house in Litchfield. We’re down there every weekend. You’ll fine me on a boat, drinking on the beach or tearing through some brews at Quigley’s.
As for fishing, my future father-in-law keeps his boats at the Georgetown marina. We primarily fish the river or go out to "secret" hotspots about 40 miles from the bay. It’s good fishing over there.

My thoughts exactly. I know there is a risk when I get into the water. But we take risk every day, like driving a car for instance. It comes with the territory. I happen to appreciate sharks, because they keep the ecosystem in check. When you jump into their world, understand that you are no longer at the top of the food chain.

I was in Destin last week just posted up in the surf drinking a beer and a huge school of fish surrounded me and were jumping out of the water. Something scared em and I didn't see it

I have a place there too. I am the guy who is too big for a Jon Boat trolling for flounder with kids in tow. I have not been there as much as of late as the kids like our Edisto place better.
40 miles out is the ledge... a tad further is the Georgetown hole which is where I catch many snowy and gag grouper along with dolphin, wahoo, tuna and the odd Marlin.

I catch a lot dolphin and grouper out there. The ledge is one of many great fishing spots, but I'll keep the coordinates to myself.
It sounds like you've covered some ground. There is some good fishing spots off the coast. Those same in-laws who have a house in Litchfield own 20 acres about 5 miles from the island. It's completely undeveloped but has a lot of potential.

A few years ago, Florida pass a law that bans large shrimping nets from trolling within a certain distance of the shore (you can google the exact facts if you wish). The goal was to limit the harm to inshore and near shore breeding and hatching of fish. It did exactly that, as inshore Florida fishing is taking off. However, as part of that, predator fish, who tend to breed more heavily, have taken off at a disproportionate rate. So sharks, catfish, stingrays and the like are much more likely to be biting a line these days unless you really target fish in the right place with the right bait. I think the increase in the sharks sighted is a direct result of the net ban. There have always been numerous sharks in the surf, but now the bigger ones have learned that more food is nearer the surf than it used to be. Next to the Great Barrier Reef, the coast of Florida and South Ga is the largest shark breeding ground. IMO
By the way the shark tracking site is very interesting. Thanks for pointing it out. I am a little worried about Katherine. She has booked it over to the US coast. One of the others must have tweeted her about the yummy humans we have over here.

She isn’t my wife yet, and I doubt it as her family is mostly Tennessee fans. It wouldn’t surprise me if we’ve ran into each other.
