We have got to throw the ball to Michel and Chubb more next year.

We have to get it to our playmaker (especially without McKenzie).

Gurley caught 30+ passes.
Moreno caught 30+ passes.
I think Michel did better under Schotty in '15.

If the Falcons have shown us anything this season... it is to get your playmakers the ball in space.

We have also got to stop running into the teeth of 8 man fronts on first and second downs all he time, putting us in so many this and longs.

This. I remember the days with Murray when teams would do this and we would come out and throw 8 straight passes in hurry-up...all of a sudden that 8 man front became a 4 man front. I know Eason may not be there yet but I would love to see more of that.

Hard to throw it to your backs when you can't protect with your OL. Also screens are tough on freshmen QBs.

That has a ton more to do with

Bobo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chaney than it does with
Murray > Eason

100% agree. Bobo is lightyears ahead of Chaney as a playcaller...and really every facet of being an OC to this point.

I wouldn't say "all".

In 2009/2010ish I think we were all very frustrated with him due to a lot of the playcalls, but I mean when carlton thomas is one of your feature backs, you have average to below average QB play, and your OL is garbage there's only so much you can do.

When he had capable talent at his disposal it was pretty clear how good he was. Maybe the best OC we've ever had.

That's what at least gives me a bit of hope for chaney. His playcalling this year was flat out awful. But with a (hopefully) improved OL, an improved Eason, elite RBs and TEs, and hopefully improved receivers, maybe he'll surprise us all.

I think we will see a difference this year. If not, we will get rid of Cheney, but it's a little early to be crucifying him. Our offensive struggles were more than just scheme and play calling:

Freshman QB
Porous O-Line
Receivers that couldn't create separation
Receivers that dropped the ball when they did get open

Yes, the play calling was frustrating at times but its hard to really open the offense up given all the problems I listed above. Hopefully the O-Line will be better this year, but as a sophomore, I believe you can trust Eason to do certain things to compensate for a weak O-Line (if there isn't any improvement). Hopefully the big uglies we have coming in will be able to step in an perform at a high level.

I will say that the TD we did in the bowl game where we faked the toss sweep to the right then hit someone over the middle was beautiful. Best (or at least most creative) playcall I've seen since bobo.

I'm hoping that the transition between 2016 Dawgs into 2017 Dawgs mirrors the transition of the 2015 Falcons into the 2016 Falcons. A full year + with a new scheme can really really do wonders. Everyone was ready to kick Shanahan to the curb 12 months ago and now we are begging him to stay. We've got to give Chaney the benefit of the doubt after only 1 season.

You don't need the tailback to block on every pass play. You need a QB that you can trust who can read the defense, feel the soft spot, and get the ball out on time.

Aaron Murray and Hutson Mason were great at 3 step drops. They were redshirt upper class men in the same system for 4+ years. It is a lot to ask from a freshman who is trying to protect the ball and figure out what the heck he is looking at. Hopefully, we will be able to utilize the backs better (Sony's draft stock would be through the roof if he catches 35+ passes)

You need a back to block on every pass play when your line is as terrible as ours was this past season. Also, three step drop doesn't work when your receivers can't create separation.

How much might it cost to can Chaney and bring in Kyle Shanahan as our OC?

He wouldn't have to move far. And a guy with a healthy BMI would set a better example.
