I thought RPI doesn't matter right now?

Losing on the road to a tourney team isn't a bad loss.

That's true. Still have a handful of shots to get a couple though.

They still look at RPI but it's not as emphasized as it used to be. I agree it's not a bad loss but it's a major missed opportunity.

We do have chances remaining where we can play our way into the tourney but I'm getting worried we won't have enough wins. Have not been collecting them like we need to in winnable situations.

I agree we have a lot of work to do and it's getting late. Just trying to show that the door is not completely shut for this team yet.

It doesn't but I emphasized it because I knew the counter argument would be:

As I said, Oakland may end up being a tourney team but they're not there yet and it'd be pretty foolish for anyone to write that loss off as ok; we need to start winning against good teams or we're liable to get caught running for the finish line with our pants around our ankles

Yesterday buried my hopes tbh. We could still make it, but it's gonna be very difficult

The issue I see isn't that we lack wins but that we've played ourselves into a corner to where we can no longer afford to lose to anyone other than, say, UK, UF, and maybe USCe or Arkansas. Coupling this with our lack of quality wins and it's essentially demanding that this team do a full 180 overnight and basically be all but perfect down the stretch.

Exactly how I feel. Still really want to see it happen but losing hope that it will. Given away several opportunities already this year with some very difficult games to go. Already dreading the feeling in March of "if only so and so game ended differently."

There has never been a fox season in which we could not have to say that.

Dude whatever I mean I've watched every Kansas game (and Georgia) for the last 17 years and there has only been one year where Kansas fans weren't making the same claim.

We still control our own destiny and every game that we play is winnable except for Kentucky. We certainly don't have much room but we have some and beating South Carolina and Florida are a start.

It's funny, everybody that reports on our tourney chances claims we aren't in and our hopes are slim. Then we win a couple and lose one and they keep saying the same thing. We can play still play our way in.

What claim do Kansas fans always make? They are often a 1 seed, while our best hope is to survive a bubble, so I fail to see the connection.

Kansas always seems to choke in the tournament.

So an apples to oranges comparison.

Actually it's not...it's the exact same reason fan base cried to fire Mark Richt.

That makes no sense. We were talking about being on the bubble in march, and Kansas is never on the bubble in march.

In the sense that if we get blistering hot and win most of the rest we could play our way in, yes. But have you watched us the last 8 years? What do you think the probability of that is?

quote:

every game is losable too. We have UK twice so there's 2 auto-losses. We have SC/UF both again and those teams are likely better than us but let's be generous and say we split them. There's still 7 other SEC games and no UGA fan that saw us this weekend should count any game as a win from here on out.

quote:

We certainly don't have much room

We have zero room. We were already on the outside looking in before Saturday's epic collapse to a woeful team that we shoudl have beat. The SEC is only going to get a small few teams in this year and we aren't exactly giving the committee much to think twice about.

quote:

everybody that reports on our tourney chances claims we aren't in and our hopes are slim.

well that's true.

quote:

Well winning beats losing so obviously winning doesn't hurt our chances.

The committee, rightfully so, doesn't simply look at your record. They look at your resume. As things stand right now, what is our biggest win we can hang our hat on? tech? Ole miss?

Tech is definitely looking our biggest win to this point and I think Auburn on the road was a pretty good win but could get bigger if they keep winning.

If we lose one game other than Kentucky the rest of the way we still have 20 wins before the SEC tourney and that would likely include wins over Any two of the following: Florida, Arkansas, and/or South Carolina.

If we don't have 20 wins before the tourney I think we have to win the whole SEC tourney to get in.

I don't think this team getting blistering hot is unimaginable because of the youth of this team. I honestly believe that this team is the third best team in the conference and could beat USC.

If we lose 3 more games this season then I'll tell you I think we are out of it for sure.

I'm including UK as two losses so really one loss beyond that and I'll stop believing we have a chance.
