It isn't even good play action, the back never even feigns interest in the ball. It's just the QB sort of motioning the ball in the backs general direction.

Yeah that's what Pugh and I were talking about a few weeks back (I think after the Bama game). The PA "fake" is so perfunctory in Spav's offense it loses any effectiveness it should theoretically have. It's pointless, and hurts the QB being able to make a read quickly on what everyone knows will be a pass play from jump street.

It also takes the Rb out of position to pick up edge rushers.
