Say what you want about Notre Dame being overrated, this was a signature win for Texas. They took our awesome finish over a ranked team and one upped it, on national TV, as the only game everyone was watching tonight.

Kevin Sumlin had a chance to bury them and own this state for a long time after 2012 and blew it. Now, they have life and are figuring it out. They took recruits we wanted as a 5-7 team, if they start winning 8-10 it's over unless we do better. The media machine will pump this up and absolutely beat the "Texas is back" horse to death. We can't compete in the media, so the time is now. This year. We must start winning at a high level. 10+ wins. Anything less simply won't get it done.

Texas schedule is incredibly weak. They have four games left they could realistically lose if they play like this on offense all year. Even at 8-4, Texas will crush is in February if we only win 8 ourselves.

Sumlin could have had a buffer zone had he taken advantage when they were wallowing in ineptitude. Now, he's reached the point of having to do what is realistically unlikely to remain competitive in recruiting.

There's no more excuses, for the future of our program we simply can't afford to make them anymore. We can't rationalize 8 win seasons anymore unless we want a repeat of 1999-2009.

C'mon, man. Have a drink. Sumlin blew it by having a better record against better competition? Really?

Roger you've been killing it lately. This along with your post game analysis I have pretty much completely agreed with. You're beating me to the punch which is why I'm posting this lol

This is also true. Always losing in the media is the main problem. Unless we win so many games that the national media just can't ignore us we'll never be on a level playing field

If I had a dollar for every time I've read "Texas is back" over the last 30 minutes on social media or other websites I'd be a rich man.

It's all about narrative, and we are historically terrible at it and will continue to be. The only way we would have "stopped" Texas would have been becoming Bama. They will always be good if they can stop stepping on their dick. I honestly believe we can both be good at the same time; it's all about controlling the narrative. But in this case I do agree that Sumlin must win 10+ this year, and it's more because of the narrative aspect: it will be irreversible. We can try to fix it again only if we get a new coach.

By regressing on the field every year and providing a seemingly endless stream of negative recruiting opportunities.

We just beat the #16 team in the nation with a great finish and we're viewed almost unanimously as a program in disarray led by a man who lets the inmates run the asylum. Texas just beat the #10 team in the nation with a great finish and they are a program on the rise with a values oriented coach.

That perception is largely due to Sumlin's failures.

As much as I've seen us aggy it up, I have more confidence that the sips will frick up any momentum that they have than we will

What he said!

And not to be an a-hole, but there seem to be too many Aggies unhappy on Sunday night after a huge victory on Saturday. Lighten the hell up!

I'm very happy with our win. But Roger is right. We need to win this year

I mean, Texas has a legendary history as a college football program. We have a decade or so largely fueled by cheating and the failures of Texas, plus 2012.

It's no coincidence that essentially all of our historical success in the modern era occurred while Texas was down as a program. When they are good, we can't compete in recruiting or in the media.

They really aren't good. Their defense is still atrocious and Notre Dame's front 7 reminded me of ours in 13 and 14. Texas will go 8-4 IMO, maybe 7-5.

I'm happy with the win, the issue is Texas plays in an easier conference and needs fewer wins to recruit well. We can be better and still go 8-4 and get thumped in February.

I think the same. However that will be enough for them to still have the narrative of a program moving forward

Who does Texas play that doesn't have a below average defense? OU and TCU are the only answers traditionally and both got mule whipped by players who weren't offered by either program.

It depends on what we do. I see Cal and 7 of their conference games as toss ups or worse (minus KU and Iowa State). If we go 9-3 or better than I don't think that doesn't anything for them. If we are moving on from Sumlin we likely see a nice bump from a new staff. I would be much more concerned if Texas looked good

OU and Ok State will be solid teams. UH is solid and OU made some insane mental mistakes they won't repeat. K State could easily beat Texas and played Stanford really tough on the road. TCU and Baylor could absolutely out score them. You're getting emotionally caught up in the hype just like the media is after that game

They will lose to OU, OSU, TCU have a toss up with baylor, and could drop a wtf game. I can see 5 losses
